Roughly 200 attorneys, judges, and other legal luminaries lent their ears as the Citizenship Law-Related Education Program (CLREP) teamed up with Baltimore’s Stoop Storytelling Series to host “Trials & Tribulations: the Good, the Bad & the Funny in the Practice of Law” on April 1, 2015, at the BWI Marriott. The event – whose featured storytellers included Arnold M. Weiner, Ava E. steel wool wrapped around rocks and then thrown into the water. Many failed attempts!! Wool needs to be loose to spark more. Secured it to the rock using a rubber band. More experimentation in the near future

The first classic trial for Canterbury in the South Island of New Zealand, was held just north of Christchurch at Kainga.

Straight forward sections with the tighness of section 4 being the points taker. Thanks to Trevor, Simon, and Kahu for putting the sections in, it must have been hard work in 31 degrees temperature the day before. Thanks also to Peter for the BBQ. Next local Classic Trial is on 18th February.

The first post lockdown trial in Canterbury attracted 48 riders to Cust in the South Island of New Zealand. The event is normally held in April but due to the lockdown was delayed until June. This meant a frosty start and the ground was damp, but a set of excellent sections were enjoyed by all.

Another great day of Classic Trials in Canterbury, NZ, as over 40 riders tackled 4 rounds of 10 sections at Kerry's Mt Thomas property. The sections had tight turns, roots, and slippery banks that helped push my score up. The top grade also faced some challenges, but some great rides were witnessed with some riders managing low scores for the day. It was good to see some new/returning riders and more riding the harder line. Thanks to Peter who managed the BBQ, and Kerry for the use of his property. Special mention to Alistair who drove to North Canterbury from Dunedin to take part, having a good ride now on a Fantic. Enjoy the photos.

This is a Sherpa trials car, possibly the best you can buy?

Despite weather warnings and gloomy forecasts we had a spectacular warm winters day at Waipara in North Canterbury for our August Classic Trial, with the rain not arriving until we were home and had the bikes cleaned. Thanks to Trevor and Wayne for setting the sections which were enjoyed by 35 riders. Thanks also to Peter for sausages from the BBQ, and

Lynette for the camera work while I rode. Enjoy the photos.

The first of two classic trials in May was held at a great venue about an hour north of Christchurch. The venue offers superb views across the sea back to Banks Peninsula. The terrain is hilly with grass banks and limestone. This is the third classic trial at this site but last time we were here it was extremely windy to the point most didn't finish the trial. I suspect this is a site that always has some wind, but yesterday the sections were well placed and the day ended up quite warm. Quite a number managed a clean round with Kahu and Kendall staying clean all day. Thanks to Trevor, Wayne and Bo who set the sections for the 30 riders. Welcome to another Trevor riding his first trial with us on a KT, and thanks to Peter who always runs the BBQ and kept us in sausages after the event.

The annual Greybeards Trial was held in wet weather for the second year running. Persistent drizzle didn't dampen the enthusiasm of riders assembled at Travis's farm in North Loburn. The Greybeards competition is for riders over 40 only, with bonus points awarded the older the rider is. Our oldest rider, Dick, at 78 years easily won the Bob Harris Memorial for B grade riders, while a more youthful Brent won the Harley Cup for A grade. Although not competing, it was good to be joined by a number of younger riders also trying their hand at the sections. Thanks to Peter who set up the BBQ under a tarpaulin, and Dave, Peter, and Christine who set the excellent sections. After the last two Canterbury trials having damp weather, we are hoping for fine conditions next weekend for our last trial of the year. Enjoy the photos

WHAT? EVERYTHING WAS WORKING GREAT! WHY DOES THIS ONE LOOK SO TERRIBLE?

Oh, ran out of gas, whoops.

After the February trial was washed out due to rain, it was great to have a warm sunny day for our March Classic Trial in Canterbury, New Zealand. The event was rewarded with 29 riders attending on a range of classic and modern machines. Straightforward sections with just a couple of sections in the trees responsible for my points. Thanks Travis for letting us use your property. Great to see Trevor joining pre-65 on his BSA for the first time.

Pioneer Club held their August trial at Purau on Banks Peninsula last weekend. Despite some light drizzle early on, the day finished sunny and warm. It was probably the driest we had seen the property but some tricky sections kept the points totals up.Juniors were again represented running on separate sections. Great to see a couple of new riders who helped bring the total entrants for the day to 26. Enjoy Lynette's photos.

Another great day of Classic Trials in Canterbury, New Zealand, rewarded the organisers with a good turn out to try their hand at the 4 laps of 8 sections. No frost which was great considering we are mid winter. I found the sections tricky, with some getting quite slippery once riders had completed a couple of rounds. Despite this the results showed some close scores and a couple of ties. Thanks to Brent and Shirley for the sections, Peter for the BBQ, Trevor who keeps us all informed, and Lynette for these photos.

trial biking blake

While the Northern part of New Zealand remains under a Covid lock down, the rest of the country has had enough restrictions lifted that our September Classic Trial could be run, even if a week later than usual. We were greeted by summer like north west weather and also some excellent sections thanks to Brent and Shirley. A good turnout of riders to try their hand at tight turns, logs, and short climbs, but the most notable sections were those with soft sand and gravel, with section 6 proving to be my nemesis on the day. Thanks Robert for the use of your property and Trevor for the foresight to delay the event a week rather than cancel it. Enjoy the photos.
