Bathed in irresistible light, this tree seemed to be baring its very soul. (allegorically speaking of course)
Tanzanians respect the baobab as a ‘tree of life.’ Its roots are extremely strong, retaining a phenomenal amount of moisture. In the dry season, the trees are a draw for the wildlife. Even the mighty elephant will visit the tree and chew off the baobab bark, enjoying the moisture and the minerals within.
Africans love the baobab tree. It is often called the tree of life and the upside tree. Mozambique has an abundance of the trees. The country is directly across from Madagascar where the trees fill the landscape. This seems to be a fitting image to end the year with.
I"ll be on and off of Flickr for a while perhaps until after the New Year. Then I'll take us back to South Africa and we will go on safari again and see what animals we can find hiding in the bush.

Siento debilidad por la cultura y la simbología celta. El árbol de la vida es uno de mis símbolos favoritos y me hizo gracia ver una figura muy parecida en el bosque de Orgi, espero que os guste :)

I am fond of celtic culture and symbology. The "tree of life" is one of my favourite symbols and I was surprised to see a quite similar figure in "Orgi" forest, I hope you like it :)

On our boat ride back from Mrauk-U to Sittwe along the Kaladan River tributaries, we came upon the Tree of Life and Baby Tree of Life.

Crann Bethadh means "Tree of Life" in Irish. The Ancient Celts, including those of Ireland, believed that trees had several powers and were the source of all life. The symbol of the Tree of Life has thus remained part of Irish and Celtic symbolism, representing balance and harmony in all worlds, connecting heaven, earth, and the underworld. The branches represent growing knowledge and understanding, and the trunk represents strength and family.

Some gorgeous, brass ornament details when you zoom in on this striking mural. I wasn’t sure if I should post this photo with or without people (I took several shots); however, in the end, I decided that this happy, young couple is a nice addition to the photo. I love their smiles, handsome dog (it had one brown and one blue eye), and how the sunlight falls directly on the man’s red shoes.

Legend has it that the godess Athena threw her spear into the ground of Akropolis and out sprang the first olive tree or even the tree of life in Greek mythos. Todays tree is a later reminder and behind it the Erechteion/Erechtheum built 421 - 401 BC once containing several shrines, and later to become a Christian church. Is it possible anywhere to come closer to absolute mythos than here?

Every life is sacred, and especially that of children and vulnerable people. In War, the truth dies first. Unbelievable as it is, a terrible war is raging in Europe. The old tree here represents the hope and renewal of life which is stronger than death and destruction. It will still be here hundreds of years from now, as this species of tree lasts for several generations. I took the photo just a few days ago on a freezing cold evening - the strong north wind swept across the country - and immediately thought of the terrible war in Ukraine. It won't let me go. I am deeply saddened by all the misery he has brought to this day and he will bring in the days to come. I don't have the words to describe my feelings and deep sadness.
The tree gives me hope that life is stronger than death and annihilation.

To the picture: Taken just before sunset with the distant Swiss Alps in the background. The distance to the freshly snow-covered mountains is about 40km. It seemed as if you could touch the mountains from the hill, the air was so clear and pure that evening, but also bitterly cold !!!

With the weather forecast this week I went off to the nearby carton recycling point knowing it would take me past this viewpoint and be able to get a shot last Sunday for SSC . I used to go past here on my way to work and sometimes stopped for a shot here as things changed through the year .
The tree here looks a bit like the Tree of Life while it is without any leaves , the field is often used in rotations for sheep and the next time they will be here there will be so many new born lambs leaping and bleating about . This scene is just one part of a much bigger field but so often the sheep and their lambs congregate around the tree - probably because there are usually food stacks when the sheep are here . You can tell where the sheep gather by the patch on the grass .
With that in mind with the new lambs soon to arrive , how about a nice little tune called -- New Horizons !!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and favs. All are greatly appreciated. HMM
As a schoolboy I was intrigued by John Milton's image in book IV of Paradise Lost of Satan who, in the form of a Cormorant, sat on the Tree of Life regarding the sweetness of Eden while contemplating his attack. Then as now, I can't imagine how Cormorants are a sign of evil. They're beautiful birds, I think, and they lift up my heart whenever I see them. Here they are drying their wings in the sparse, low winter sunlight that's turned the pond into shimmering gold.
……Spotted this tree at Tarn Hows which was covered in various lifeforms, lots of web’s especially and it also played host to a variety of Lichens - every inch a picture - a super nature walk when you stop & look around. Alan:-)………

I've visited this spot many times, but on this morning the sun was dancing on the water and creating magical reflections on the trees. Because the shutter speed was 2.5 seconds, the longer exposure evened out the dancing light on the trees, creating a less splotchy but still beautiful illumination.

Yes, I got a bit carried away with one of my tassels, but I was trying to incorporate symbols which may pertain to this amazing grad's ambitious future as she strives to make a difference in our complicated world. I believe there were 10 charms all together, although a beautiful wired blue heart isn't visible. I particularly loved the tree of life and peace symbols!
These constructions are just fun to attach to a purse, journal or the rear view mirror of one's car (if that's still legal)!
In the 2-sided miniature frame, I was able to insert two graduation photos from Krista's invitation!
Fun project, and something a little extra to accompany the check we enclosed.
