An aging fishing trawler tied up at the Sydney Fish Market wharf in Blackwattle Bay, Sydney. I gave the old girl a bit of a paint job to help soften her advanced years.

Ardglass Harbour. The natural deep water harbour has been used for 3,000 years. An important centre for the Gaelic Dál Fiatach clan who rules Lecale for 1,500 years and provided many kings of Ulster and High Kings of Ireland.

First time I'd seen Ocean Provider in Burghead, think it's a fairly new boat to the Wick register but usually fishes out of Helmsdale across the firth. It was previously registered as LN4, Kings Lynn, but operated out of the Tyne. Don't know where it was built or who by.

The remains of fishing trawlers from the Fleetwood fishing fleet dumped due to EU regulations reducing the fishing quotas to the UK fleets decades ago.

I wanted to get an LE shot of the wrecks on Fleetwood Marsh with water around them.

This is approx 100m out on the marsh I initially looked at low tide to work out the best way to, my location, and get around the many muddy trenches some too wide to jump over.

Then decided to have a go on a rising tide so I could see my way out managed to get three shots but tide came in so fast could not risk putting on a 10 stop filter as water half way up wellies returned to shore tripod a handy walking stick.

Decided to wait around for the ebb tide and started going out but not easy to see the trenches and tide ebbed very quickly for a decent LE.

The photo above was on the rising tide.

If you want to give it a go take real care on the marsh the vegetation stops you from slipping but not recomended to go into a trench you will find it difficult to get out tidal range on the day 10m to 0.4m.

Passing Plymouth Hoe.

The Sirius-class Trawlers were highly seaworthy, built to the specifications of the Grande Marina for use in wartime. Capable of speeds up to 11 knots and easily adapted for patrol and minesweeping tasks, they were cheap, versatile and able workhorses of a navy that, despite the massive Rearmament programme of the 1890's, was still experiencing a shortage of warships. They could even have a 4.7in gun and some 40mm's thrown on!

Historically, Perceptum's fishing industry has been an interesting one. Like everything else it was hit hard by the aftermath of the Eight Years War; the loss of the extensive pre-war fishing grounds forced the shrunken fishing fleets of the Grand Republic to get crafty. In the 1880's they were practically pirates that invaded the sovereign waters of other countries (usually their former colonies) to commence illegal fishing operations. In the 1890's they gained the support of the Republics growing navy. Where they had previously had to resort to... interesting methods of the defense, the 1890's formalized the aggressive nature of Perceptum's fishing industry with the support of the government.

Yeah, Perceptum is a bully.

If this looks familiar to some of you; it was inspired by the ship of the same name from the Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.

Which was itself modeled off the trawler John-0.88, so at least the blueprints were easy to find. Stats-wise its closer to a WW1 Castle-class Trawler.
