After putting off getting some quality square ND filters, I finally ordered some a few weeks ago, so I have been thinking about taking some long exposures, lately. As I was walking through the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park in the late afternoon, yesterday, I realized there was the perfect opportunity starring down at me. To celebrate the Park’s 150th birthday, the Parks Department installed a large Ferris wheel (the SkyStar). However, with the pandemic, its opening was delayed until, finally, this last week. So, I figured I’d come back after the sun set and grab some of the wheel all lit up! Here are some shots of the interesting patterns that emerge from the moving, lit wheel over 15 to 30 seconds. In the end, these didn’t require the new filters.

One year ago, today, I was listening to the history of art in Florence while exploring it’s narrow streets, churches, and bridges. There are several churches around Florence and this one, which was having some work done, is the Florence Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze), or, formerly, Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore). It, along with the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile, on the Piazza del Duomo, all make up an UNESCO World Heritage site. I really like the colors and overall architecture of the building, and the inside is quite beautiful, as well.

For my birthday, this past June, I decided to take the day off work. I thought it would be a good opportunity to head up to the Marin Headlands, just across the Golden Gate, since it was in the middle of the week, and few people would be exploring and hiking around there. I had wanted to go for some time, but for several months the Parks Service had blocked access just like they had for most public/national parks. So it was the perfect opportunity! The main reason I wanted to go, besides to get some fresh air and exercise, was to take some black and white film and capture the old military batteries that had been erected at various points to protect the bay. They are all in a somewhat derelict state, but completely safe to visit. Because they were all meant to fire large munitions out towards ships in the Pacific, they all have great views of the ocean! Here are some exposures from Battery 129, Battery Rathbone McIndoe, Clydes Ridge Battery, Battery Wallace, Battery Alexander, Battery Mendell, and Battery Townsley in the Marin Headlands.
I was going through some of my Cuba pictures the other day and decided to edit and process some from our photoshoot session with the very talented ballerina and model Kamila. We took these photos in a couple different locations inside a beautiful old building in Havana. Enjoy!
Last new shots with the 2019 copyright watermark… I still don’t really understand why so many people repost photos at the end of the year. Post some new ones! And why repost the selection of photos that humans, or more likely software/computers/bots, clicked the like button the most times? Why not repost YOUR favorite photos you’ve shared? Here are 5 NEW photos for you. 3 from my travels this summer, and 2 from SF. We start off with a classic view of Portree on the Isle of Skye off the western coast of Scotland (I’ve posted similar shots before). Next, a Scottish landscape near the Eilean Donan Castle. Scotland has been my favorite country to visit of all so far (which is why I’ve been there 3 times), mostly because of the beautiful landscapes. Then a photo of sheep that looks like it could be Scotland, but is just across the England border at Hadrian’s Wall. Then a recent shot back in San Francisco of a classic Golden Gate Bridge at golden hour with an interesting framing. Lastly, something out of context for me, is a self-portrait, taken on black and white Kodak Tri-X 35mm film. Film is a new challenge for me, which is why I chose to include this. Hopefully more black and white film in the coming year. Happy new year, y’all!
Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses; the ca. 35 houses from all over the Zaanstreek were moved to the museum area starting in 1961.
According to the mythology , Lord Muruga fought with a demon named "Thalayaga Asuran" which took place in the air. As it is the place of the war , this place is named as Thirupporur. This place was founded by the Adhinam Srimad Chidambara Swamy.
