Matsumoto Castle (Matsumotojo) is one of the most complete and beautiful among Japan's original castles. It is also a good example of a so called "hirajiro", a castle built on the plain rather than on a hill or mountain.

Matsumotojo's castle tower and smaller, second turret were built from 1592 to 1614 and were both well defended, as peace was not yet fully secured at the time. In 1635, when no more military threats existed, a third, barely defended turret for moon viewing was added to the castle.

Strömsborg is a tiny circular island in central Stockholm, part of the Gamla Stan district. The name Strömsborg is derived from the Stockholm merchant Berge Olofson Ström (1688-1762), who bought the uninhabited island in 1740 and built a castle-like house on it. Previously, the island was called Stenkär.

Sandwiched between two bridges, the Centralbron and the Vasabron, the island can today only be reached via a branch in the middle of the Vasabron. The small palace on the island was built in 1895-97 and received its present form in 1929-30 by the architect Ragnar Östberg. The house houses offices of the international organization IDEA and the Council of the Baltic Sea States.

Itsukushima (厳島, Itsukushima?) is an island in the Inland Sea of Japan. It is popularly known as Miyajima (宮島, Miyajima?), the Shrine Island. Itsukushima is part of the city of Hatsukaichi in Hiroshima Prefecture. The island was the town of Miyajima prior to the 2005 merger with Hatsukaichi.

Itsukushima is famous for the Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to records, the shrine was established in the time of Empress Suiko. The warrior-courtier Taira no Kiyomori gave the shrine its present form. In 1555, Mori Motonari defeated Sue Harukata at the Battle of Miyajima. Toyotomi Hideyoshi built a large building, the Senjō-kaku, on a hill above the shrine.

Located inside Bill Baggs State Park was completed in 1825. It was damaged during the 2nd Seminole War. The repaired lighthouse was completed in 1846. The island was used by runaway slaves and Black Seminoles as a secret meeting place while waiting for ships to escape to the British Bahamas. In 2004 it was placed on the National Underground Network to Freedom site. It still remains the oldest standing structure in Miami.

St. Joseph's Church is located in the middle of Beijing's center: on Wangfujing pedestrianized shopping street. It is also known as the East Cathedral, and is one of the most picturesque church buildings in the entire of China. It is built in the Romanesque Revival style from the early 20th century, and is one of the four churches in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Beijing. The current structure was built in 1904, while the original structure was built in 1655. It is the second oldest church in Beijing.

Picture this: a bright green DoDublin open-top tour bus, proudly parked at the Dublin Bus stop in Phoenix Park, ready to whisk tourists away on a hop-on, hop-off adventure through the charming streets of Dublin. But today, this bus has some rather unusual passengers hitching a ride! A giant inflatable unicorn, a cheeky eggplant, a mischievous squirrel, and a pink pig are all hanging out near the iconic Wellington Monument, looking like they’ve just escaped from a parade—or perhaps the Dublin Zoo nearby decided to throw a costume party. The bus driver, unfazed by the quirky crew, is probably wondering if these characters have their tickets ready for the next stop at Temple Bar!

The DoDublin sightseeing tour is a tourist favorite, and for good reason. With its hop-on, hop-off flexibility, you can jump off to sip a pint at the Guinness Storehouse, explore the historic Trinity College, or snap a selfie at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, then hop back on to continue the journey. The open-top bus gives you the best views of Dublin’s vibrant streets, from the colorful Georgian doors to the bustling energy of Grafton Street. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned visitor, DoDublin’s lively commentary and iconic green buses make every ride a delight—though today’s passengers might be adding a bit more flair than usual!

Phoenix Park itself is a gem worth exploring, sprawling over 1,750 acres as one of the largest enclosed parks in any European capital. It’s home to the Dublin Zoo, where you can meet real animals (not just inflatable ones!), from roaring lions to playful penguins. The park also houses the elegant Áras an Uachtaráin, the residence of the President of Ireland, and the towering Wellington Monument, where our inflatable friends seem to be staging their impromptu photoshoot. With its rolling green fields and ancient deer herds, Phoenix Park is the perfect spot to stretch your legs—or your inflatable hooves—before hopping back on the DoDublin bus for more city adventures. Just don’t be surprised if the unicorn tries to claim the front seat!

Después del atardecer; en la carretera no se veía nada más que los pequeños faros de los autos atravesando una espesa neblina con tonalidades verde azul y turquesa.

It is located about 30 minutes (40 km) north of Lake Louise on the Ice Fields Parkway. During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park. The lake is best seen from Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefield Parkway.

Best to know one thing from the start about Old (Medieval) Town of Rhodes (Rhodos): It's not laid out on a grid -- not even close. There are roughly 200 streets or lanes that simply have no name. Getting lost here is not a defeat; it's an opportunity. Whenever you feel the need to find your bearings, you can ask for Sokratous, which is the closest the Old Town of Rhodes comes to having a main street.

When you approach the walls of the Old Town of Rhodes, you are about to enter the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe. It's a thrill to behold. Although there are many gates, we suggest that you first enter through Eleftheria (Liberty) Gate, where you'll come to Plateia Simi (Simi square), containing ruins of the Temple of Venus, identified by the votive offerings found here, which may date from the 3rd century B.C. The remains of the temple are next to a parking lot (driving is restricted in the Old Town), which rather diminishes the impact of the few stones and columns still standing. Nevertheless, the ruins are a reminder that a great Hellenistic city once stood here and encompassed the entire area now occupied by the city, including the old and new towns. The population of the Hellenistic city of Rhodes is thought to have equaled the current population of the whole island (roughly 100,000).

Like so many other things at Club Med, this was an unexpected sight. I was walking along the beach, from our room to the fitness center (the vast quantities of delicious food make daily exercise a necessity!) when I saw a large group of colorful kayaks rowing by. I don't know if it was a contest, a parade, a regatta, or just a bunch of people enjoying themselves -- but it was colorful indeed...

There was one aspect of this picture that I was completely unaware of when I snapped the photo ... which I'll let you discover by yourself.

By the way, the shipwreck in the distance was a Russian freighter called the Astron, which ran aground in the early 1980s, while delivering 60 tons of corn to Cuba. For more information see this article on Wikipedia.
