Taken as a slide transparency on my parents Honeymoon on the Italian Riviera in May 1960.
The Castle itself was built in the 15th century and has been used for harbour defense during the centuries. It was in 1867 that the Castle fell into private hands when it was purchased by , the English Consul Montague Yeats Brown. He transformed it from a fortress into a stunning villa under the expert advice of the architect Alfredo de Andrade and the engineer Pietro Tamburelli. It is said that in 1870 for their wedding, the Consul planted two pines in the main terrace: one for him and one for his wife, Agnes Bellingham. Even today, the two pine trees dominate the village with their majesty and have become a distinct feature of the Castle.The Castle was part of the Brown’s family until 1949 when they sold it to an English couple - John and Joceline Baber. They became the caretakers of the Castle restoring several ruined sections until 1961 when they sold it back to the City of Portofino.Nowadays, the Castle is surrounded by stunning gardens full with roses and pergolas. It is opened for visits and hosts many cultural and entertainment events throughout the year. It is also available for hire as a wedding’s venue and makes for an incredible setting with breathtaking views for the big day…
Around the busy times of the day, when all you want to do is get home and relax. So does everyone else! The buses are packed not to their pre-arranged safe numbers, but to as many people who can fit in!! Here you can see that in the background there are about 3 layers of people. I remember a story from when I live in Qingdao... one of my friends, a teacher was an hour late for her class, when she tried to get off the bus she couldn't!! She kept trying and it took 3 stops before she managed to get off, much further away from her usual stop!! Already late by this time, she tried to hail a taxi. Another thing about China is that the taxi's all change over at the busy time too. So hailing a taxi at this time is impossible!! They might stop, but if you're not on their route home then they will flatly refuse and drive onto the next person. So by the time she eventually got a cab in the right direction she was an hour late for her class, which only had 30 minutes left to run!! I heard this story first hand, and she was not happy about it let me tell you!!! My advice, just don't bother travelling at this time in China!!

A digitized transparency taken in 1991. If memory serves, we were on a whale watching cruise with hopes of seeing sea otters, too. Unfortunately, being 2 years after the Exxon Valdez spill, we did not see any otters (but a couple of humpback whales - yeah! Copied using the IPhone.

Class 52 diesel hydraulic locomotive No. D1057 WESTERN CHIEFTAIN gets a away from Swindon with an up express on Thursday 2nd August 1973.
From my records it looks like I had a short spotting trip to Swindon that day. I saw members of Classes 08, 31, 35, 37, 42, 45, 47 and some DMUs. The "Warships" (810 and 818) were probably parked outside the Works, spied from the train on the way in. I also noted two other "Westerns": D1047 and D1072. My trains to and from Swindon (I probably travelled from Bath Spa) were both Brush 4s: 1942 and 1952 respectively.

An ash field on the slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily, slowly being reclaimed by various shrubs. I was taken by the splashes of colour and rounded shapes against the dark spiky ash. I re-digitised this one via a slide copier and DSLR from 35mm Kodak Ektachrome E100S transparency film. Originally shot on 1st June 2000, using a Nikon F70 35mm SLR and a Sigma 18-35mm lens.
I took a roll of transparency film and processed it in c-41 chemicals and the results are amazing!
Double exposure and light leaks. This is one of my favorites from the roll.

These women were just beside me watching the window of this shop. At the back, a mirror referred their face.

These swizzle sticks were a bargain at £1 for the sticks, straws and a whole bunch of those little cocktail umbrellas - which will no doubt make an appearance in my photostream at some point...
