Lake Lucerne (German: Vierwaldstättersee, literally 'Lake of the four forested settlements' (in English usually translated as forest cantons), French: lac des Quatre-Cantons, Italian: lago dei Quattro Cantoni) is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country.
The name of Vierwaldstättersee is first used in the 16th century. Before the 16th century, the entire lake was known as Luzerner See "Lake Lucerne", as remains the English (and partly Italian, as Lago di Lucerna) usage. The (three) "Waldstätte(n)" (lit.: "forested sites/settlements", in English usually translated as forest cantons) since the 14th century were the confederate allies of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. The notion of "Four Waldstätten" (Vier Waldstätten), with the addition of the canton of Lucerne, is first recorded in the 1450s, in an addition to the "Silver Book" of Egloff Etterlin of Lucerne.
The entire lake has a total area of 114 km² (44 sq mi) at an elevation of 434 m (1,424 ft) a.s.l., and a maximum depth of 214 m (702 ft). Its volume is 11.8 km³. Much of the shoreline rises steeply into mountains up to 1,500 m above the lake, resulting in many picturesque views including those of the mountains Rigi and Pilatus.

In the case of a parhelion, the sun's rays pass through ice crystals which form the clouds. There is then a refraction.
It's a bit the same phenomenon when looking at an object at the bottom of a swimming pool. The object is not really where it appears to be. There is therefore a deviation of the rays of the sun, and a decomposition of the light, as a prism can do.
The more red colors are closest to the sun, and the more blue colors are opposite. This is mainly visible when the sun is low on the horizon. The rays thus pass through a greater number of ice crystals and the effect is then increased.

Longfellow is one of America's most famous poets. Many phrases today are used in common conversation, without knowing that they originated in his poetry. Two famous examples: "... ships that pass in the night...", and "like footprints in the sands of time...".
Gitche Gumee is Lake Superior, the largest fresh-water lake in the world. Like many location names in Michigan, Gitche Gumee is believed to be derived from the Ojibwe (Native American tribe) word that some translate to mean "Great Water". An alternative name is "Kitchi Gami".
The location of this picture is on the Southern shore of Lake Superior, an 8-hour drive from my home in Southeast Michigan. It's the general area that Longfellow described in his famous poem.
I stood on the empty, natural sand beach/shore and looked into the massive, empty sea, feeling alone and very at peace. Bliss.

A thriving group of Common Bonnets (Mycena galericulata) covered a thick fallen tree branch all over. This is a widespread species of fungi belonging to a big Mycena family. The genus name “Mycena” originates from the ancient Greek work” mykes” meaning “fungus”. The scientific epithet “galericulata” comes from the Latin word ‘galer’ which is be translated as ‘helmet’ or ‘hat’. If you compare its small cap with the length of the stem it sits on – it is indeed an elegant ‘fungus with a small hat’. Their appearance also reflected in other names like the ‘helmeted high-stool’, the ‘togue mycena’, and the ‘rosy-gill fairy helmet’. Ben Ledi was once mistakenly translated from Gaelic by a local minister of the parish as 'the mountain of God'. It actually means 'hill of the long shoulder' which will probably make sense to anyone who's been up it.
The hill is a little under 3000 feet so too small to be a Munro, but it's a more challenging walk than some Munros due to steep stages near the start and to get onto the shoulder for the easier final section.
This shot was taken just below the top, where there were stunning views on this particular day. Patches of mist and low cloud dotted the hillside and the surrounding landscape, and from the cairn the sun could be seen shining on a beautiful cloud inversion to the west stretching as far as the horizon.
Koh-Itten, which loosely translates to “one red spot” is a Japanese aesthetic term. Several other examples of this aesthetic can be viewed in the first comment box below. Albeit, these are my personal interpretations of 'koh-Itten' and quite probably they are a misinterpretation of the original Japanese concept? I will happily stand corrected if a viewer knows better and provides clarification in the comment section. :)

Godzilla in any form translates to city-wide destruction, but Burning Godzilla? This means Big G's radiation level has reached a peak, and the King of the Monsters doesn't like to hold on to all that energy.

History
The prongs Haren was once hunting ground of the family of value based on Schloss Hoppenrade . He was in the context of land reform in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945 expropriated and divided. During the period of the German Democratic Republic it was used by the State Forestry operation. 1990 sought to provide the Haren prongs under protection. The designation as a nature reserve finally took place in 2003. In the same year, 160 ha of the area were from the Federal Republic of Germany at the Green League for natural management transfer. [2]
The reserve is part of the European bird reserve Upper Havelniederung.

If you get to spend a bit of time in the high altitude Himalayas you soon start to appreciate the old Nepalese pilots adage that “we don't fly when there are clouds, because the clouds have rocks in them”. Peaking though the clouds here is the incredible spire of Ama Dablam at 6,812 metres (22,349 ft). Ama Dablam translates to "Mother's necklace" as the long ridges on each side are said to resemble the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women.
