Abandoned Powerplant

Autumn comes and autumn goes, but you'll have to wait for winter snows.

The muddy waters of the St. Joseph River flow into the sandy green waters of Lake Michigan. This is at the end of the North Pier.

Took a few weeks... but managed to do another sunrise session with friend and fellow flickr photographer Paul Hollins at Newcastle Beach, NSW; Australia this morning!

An almost total lack of cloud challenged the opportunity to come away with keepers - but I was happy with the transitional pastel colors captured in this shot - hope you like it!!!

Thanks again for any comments, viewings or favorites for this or any of my images - much appreciated!!!

Have an awesome day and week ahead everyone!!!

Up until the start of this week, our spring had been moving along very nicely with the snow one and nice and dry. But then the snow hit, then the rain, and then the snow again.

I shouldn't be surprised. This time of year can always be back and forth.

And as much as we hope and plan, transitions always come with ups and downs. The path never seems to be linear.

To me, that's okay. It's the transitions that make it interesting.

Berlin: Connection Tunnel between Reichstag (German Parliament) und Parliament offices.

Tomorrow there will be general elections for the federal parliament - the Bundestag. -in Germany. The old government stays in power until a new one is elected by the parliament. I will not be easy to form a new government as we experience fundamental shifts in the voter's preference for parties. It will take time to establish a new coalition from maybe three parties. So we are in a political transition zone but also in a societal.

Clydesdales originate from Scotland and were popular workhorses for generations before transitioning to a pleasure role. They have a typical lifespan of 25-30 years.

Transitional Plumage

Juvenile or non-breeding male Red-winged Blackbird transiting to breeding plumage at Bombay Hook NWR. I find the pattern of brown tippled black feathers to be very beautiful.

While this park isn’t known for its fall, Auyuittuq does get some wonderful fall colours in some of the cryptic-growing plants. These little plants took on the most beautiful gold colours when fall rolled in, and I was happy to find a few images where I could showcase that colour. I’m not sure that this park gets an incredibly long fall season, as winter seems to loom over the valley at the higher elevations at all times, gradually moving up and down the valley walls. This image demonstrates this dynamic pretty well - winter on top, fall on the bottom.

Sun was setting to the right, lighting these clouds up bright pink.

Inspired by Colin Giffords excellent book Transitions ,a dip into the archives produced this image .

This shot taken last weekend shows Baby Butchie perched on a pot plant at my back door. His feathers are transitioning from grey and white to black and white, he looks something of a mess, but soon he will be a fully fledged adult.

Butcher birds live in communities with a breeding pair who are supported by the community in raising their young. Baby Butchie was one of three chicks, and the only one to survive. I hope he will stay to help raise the next generation, and our friendship can continue into the future.

We seem to be in a season of transitions - between spring and summer, light and dark, health and sickness, isolation and freedom - all of which has me seeing more in black and white.
