In the process of molting, this male American Goldfinch is transitioning from a dull winter color to its brilliant yellow spring color. In the meantime, these birds have a bizarre "patchy" look.

For the first time since we built the house in 1992, we were able to rearrange the great room furniture when we got the new flat screen TV (which is now mounted on the wall behind it in the picture.) Always before we had a big old tube TV in that corner behind the loveseat, between the sliding doors and the big window, and that determined the position of the couch and John's easy chair. It's very refreshing to be able to reorient things. This photo shows the beginning of the process.

So this series of photos were trees in a city pool parking lot in the dark and in the fog, lit up by overhead lampposts. It was such a beautiful effect highlighting the Autumn leaves.

Yes, another sunrise photo. I was particularly struck by the transition from darkness on the left to the brightness of the rising sun. Thanks, Kim, for pointing that out in my previous post.
The coolness of the fresh air, was a sensory stimulant, not at all uncomfortable. Not only was the sun rising, but birds were waking up singing morning songs, wild turkeys gobbling in the distance -- no traffic, air or ground. Aloneness but not loneliness.
As one who has lived through my share of "dark nights," emotional and spiritual, the coming of the new brightness is invigorating and terribly, terribly welcome.
