To say that my life is in transition right now would be an understatement. It's more like my life has been turned upside down. For the last five months I've been out of the work force, or at least the workforce as I've always known it. I keep reminding myself that this is a blessing. This time has allowed me to reevaluate my life and concentrate on being more creative and pursuing my photography. I've also started booking weddings which means I'm actually beginning to get paid to do what I love. I know I'm not alone in this wave of change. My friends, family, and almost everyone I know right now are going through incredible life changes. My hope is that I will look back on this time as a pivotal moment where my life took on an amazing new direction.
About 2 years ago I called up my friend Adam and told him I had just bought a camera, the Canon 5D mark i. It was purchased on the spur of the moment. I thought it would be nice to learn about photography. I had spent a lot of money on a whim. He told me he had just lost his job. He seemed kind of dazed. He had no real idea what he was going to do. I said that I had this idea for a stop motion movie that involved covering his face with stage makeup to make him look like a skeleton boy. He said to come on over.

Now, it's 2 years later. I've fallen in love with photography. I'm no longer working at my 'real job', and I'm trying to wrap my head around how I can take photographs for a living. Adam's life is suddenly in major transition again as well. In many personal ways his life is being thrown into another flux. I called him up. I told him that I got a new camera. This time it's a toy film camera. It was time for us to take some pictures.
I've shot four rolls of 120 film so far with the Holga. During this last roll with Adam I definitely got pretty cocky. I did much more experimentation. I started experimenting with colored flashes and played around with creating more in camera double exposures. I've learned a lot from this last roll even though I feel only two of the photos are actually good (I'll be posting the second one tomorrow). This is definitely a time for learning, making mistakes, experimenting and having fun.
The Transition Report 2016-17 casts a spotlight on inequality and inclusion, explaining how a failure to deliver a fair distribution of the fruits of progress may lead to setbacks in political and economic development. It also explores the causes of inequality of opportunity and looks at how to strengthen financial inclusion.
Tracking the successes that have been achieved in post-communist societies, the report concludes that the “happiness gap” has finally closed with people on similar incomes in non-transition countries, but warns that not everyone has shared in this economic prosperity.
This latest annual analysis draws on a wide-ranging survey of people who have experienced transition first-hand.

I had the opportunity to shoot the rare celestial event from my Salt Lake residence roof top just after sunrise.
Venus can be seen as a tiny dot of the left side of the solar disc.

Photo 4 of 5. Transition between active Schuylkill River floodplain and ancient terraces. Human transported materials (0-20 cm) over stratified anthracite coal/quartz alluvium (30-55 cm) indicate land use changes since the early 1900s. The lower buried soil has a thick Ap horizon (60-90 cm) over Bw horizons indicating past agriculture on the floodplain before industrial coal mining deposited waste over top of this field.
This image was taken back in the early stage of autumn back in October at the woods near Stourhead.
I was fortunate to be able to capture the golden colours of autumn before Mother Nature decided wind and rain would be best.
The transition of colour was something that was noticeable. I wanted to capture this transition against the ever green forest or vice versa. To achieve this I adjusted the focal length to move further into the landscape, which was also helped by switching between FX and DX to help crop into the scene and adjusting the composition.

A fallen autumn leaf lying on the forest floor, one amongst many, in transition, slowly decaying and disintegrating, is it an ending or a beginning? Giving life to the tree through spring and summer, then slowly dissolving into the ground beneath to be absorbed by the soil to feed the tree from below and then all to begin again.
