In firefighting, the Rapid Intervention Team’s purpose is to rescue firefighters who may become injured or trapped in a structure fire. These firefighters are trained in scenarios of collapse, oxygen sharing, victim removal, and improvising tools of rescue while blindfolded. These photos were taken during a weekend-long grueling training exercise with some of the top instructors in the Northeast US and Canada.
This is my father's Olympus OM-2n with 50mm f/1.4 lens. My discovery of this fascinating camera and lens started my interest into photography. This camera has been around the world, used when my father was doing his naval tour of duties back in the late 80's and early 90's. It's still in wonderful condition and has been a great tool for me to learn the fundamentals of photography.
Virginia Task Force 2 (VA-TF2) Urban Search and Rescue Task Force recently conducted a quarterly training exercise at the Virginia National Guard Camp Pendleton Collective Training Center in Virginia Beach. VATF2 is a Department of Homeland Security Urban Search and Rescue Team headquartered in Virginia Beach. The Task Force is comprised of members from eleven Hampton Roads fire departments and includes civilian Subject Matter Experts with the primary mission of FEMA under Urban Search and Rescue, is the coordination, development, and maintenance of the Federal effort with resources to locate, extricate and provide immediate medical treatment to victims trapped in collapsed structures, and to conduct other life-saving operations.
