Sunday morning, member of Santa Barbara County Fire participated in a training drill in the construction zone behind the Santa Catalina Dorms at UCSB. The drill simulated a fully involved, three story, wood framed structure that was under construction. Along with helping firefighters to keep up on techniques, the drill also allowed units to familiarize themselves with the new structures and placement of hydrants.

Roney, a member of Champaign's Naval Reserve facility, is receiving a 2-week's special 'boot training' that presents the highlights of seamanship, gunnery, firefighting and military drill taught to regular Navy men in 11 weeks of 'recruit camp.' At the end of the reserve recruit course, Roney will return to civilian life. Next year he will take part in more advanced training aboard one of the ships in the Great Lakes squadron."
