"It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry....Bob Dylan.

In my younger days I built bridges for the Rock Island Lines (now defunct) so I have a soft spot for trains. This one was winding its way through the hills of Utah when I spotted it. I just had to get a quick shot.

In 1938, on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the death of King Stephen, the relic of the monarch, the Holy Right, was taken on a national tour in a railway carriage, popularly known as the Golden Train. Destroyed at the end of the Second World War, the relic can now be seen in its former glory.

After the ceremonial unveiling of the St Right Relic Carriage, the Golden Train will be on permanent display in the Railway Historical Park.

Thanks to a new regulation, every suburban shuttle train operated by the state railways must have its locomotive facing towards the capital.

This means that every consist running on line 142 was also "rotated" in the last few weeks, including the retro style stock pictured here.

Passengers head for the exits at Liverpool Lime Street in the days when trains had real coaches. I had been riding behind Deltics as their time in regular service drew to a close and had just arrived in the train seen on the right, There was then time for a few shots around the station and a quick pint before reboarding for a run back to Manchester. Within a week or two the fun was all over.

Two men worked together pumping handcars on White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. This railroad served the needs of Yukon's population as well as its mining industry since 1898. Today it is designated an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

This used to be a proud well kept train station. Now tickets are bought and paid for online or from the conductor on the train. I’m not even sure that the building is in use anymore. You used to be able to buy a newspaper and a cup of coffee inside. At one point it was featured in a movie even!!
