WE had a lovely 83rd BIRTHDAY lunch at the LE TRAIN BLEU resturant at the GARE DU LYON in PARIS for JACKIE.
The waiter was a charmer. He was so happy to wait on us when he heard it was JACKIEs 83 rd birthday!
JACKIE had her fave rack of lamb which was excellent along with some potatoes dauphine (cheese):::I had my fave ROASTED VEGGIES which were incredible:::along with a good glass of red:
When it came time for dessert; he brought out the specialty BABA AU RUM with a candle::::he then sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY in french to JACKIE. He explained that this dessert is one of the original desserts when the resturant opened back in 1900; He then sliced the cake open and pulled out a bottle of rum from his cart: Tradition says; pour the rum over the cake and then leave the bottle on the table ; in case you would like a touch more! That certainly went well with us:::hahahaha
LE TRAIN BLEU is a over the top resturant that was built in the 1900;s for the WORLD EXPO; It is truely a place to go in PARIS though it is a tad pricey: Well worth it:::
JACKIE had a wonderful day:::and loved the cards and birthday wishes::::
bisous
This is a working train bridge across the St. Mary's River between Soo Michigan (in the distance) and Soo Ontario Canada (where I am standing). Behind it is the International Bridge for cars/bikes and just off camera on the right are the gates that regulate the waterflow on the river. Behind that is Lake Superior and the water is regulated to keep it from going dry (it's spawnign grounds for fish, etc.) and for overflow not used by either sides power generating stations.
On the nearest piling, you can see a bunch of guys who were waving to me with my long telephoto lens. They must have suspected I was some kind of authority as they left soon afterwards.
The tall structure in the distance is the portion of the train tracks that can be raised high over the smoke stacks of any lake freighters that pass through the locks on the American side of the river.
