Haiku for a Cloudy Mind

Which One is Tallest?

The Nearest or the Farthest?

But Both in My Mind...

Haiku pour un esprit nuageux

Quel est-ce qu'est le plus grand ?

Le plus proche ou le plus lointain ?

Tous les deux sont dans mon esprit

高的是哪個?

最近或最更?

兩個依我所見是

The latest skyscraper to dominate the City skyline is 22 Bishopsgate. It features the highest viewing platform yet. And it's free to visit but you have to book well in advance. I booked several months ago and will be up there on Friday :-)

Have a great weekend to all =D

Looking up through the glass canopy of this striking entrance, the architectural lines of the skyscraper stretch endlessly into the sky. The flowing, sculptural facade creates a surreal contrast with the angular reflections of the steel and glass framing below.

Shot from street level, this perspective captures the hypnotic symmetry and bold design language that define New York’s skyline. It’s a reminder that even the most towering giants can reveal their most poetic side—when viewed from the right angle.

A view from the stile at the top of Bwlch Tryfan. The wonderful pyramidal shape of Tryfan and the wall leading up to the Far South Peak before the summit grabbed my attention and had me reaching for the camera.

It was also an opportune moment for Clive Griffiths and I to take a rest after the steep climb up from Cwm Bochlwyd some 400 metres below, before taking on the steeper challenge of the East face of Glyder Fach.

We had a wonderful day out in blue sky weather only spoiled by a stiff cold wind on the tops.

My next trip is to be to the rainforest at Khao Yai National Park, approximately 3 hours north of where we live. We took a walk through the jungle and these are some of the things we saw along the way

'Towering Giants'

After the April 2024 solar eclipse, I headed to the Badlands National Park. It was a long and tiresome drive from Indiana to South Dakota. I finally arrived in the afternoon of the day after the eclipse and was glad to find many interesting compositions without the need for too much hiking.

The weather was partly cloudy and quite breezy, but later at night, it cleared almost completely, allowing me to capture this panorama of the rising Milky Way arc over the towering buttes near the Notch Trailhead.

Spider Rock might be one of the most visually arresting landmarks in the entire National Park Service- a massive stone tower, shining in the sun and surrounded by the walls of an undulating and bending canyon. What a delight.

Much like Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly isn’t just part of the iconic landscape of the American Southwest, it is still a living and breathing and active community within the Navajo Nation- it is the only National Monument that is not on Federal Land, but instead, on Navajo Nation land. Spider Rock, a towering monolith of sandstone in the canyon is believed to be the home of Spider Grandmother, a spiritual figure who gives advice, medicinal cures, and help. Mindfulness of the privilege of being here is the way to go.

Across Utah and Arizona, you are in the Navajo Nation. In Navajo, sacred land is referred to as Diné Bikéyah. This land belongs to the people. Hopitutskwa, Pueblos, and Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) land is also found across these two states and at archeological sites. It is an honor to see them.
