Monte Fitz Roy or Cerro Chaltén (right) is a mountain in Patagonia, on the border between Argentina and Chile. Argentine explorer Francisco Moreno saw the mountain in 1877 and named it Fitz Roy in honour of Robert FitzRoy who, as captain of HMS Beagle, had charted large parts of the Patagonian coast. The natives called it Chaltén (smoking mountain), because a cloud usually forms around the mountain's peak. Aguja Poincenot is the tower on the left. The name remembers Jacques Poincenot, one of the members of the French expedition that climbed Fitz Roy in 1952. Poincenot died crossing the Fitz Roy river on the way to basecamp.

The Luchtwachttoren in Schoonebeek, eventhough only 12 meters tall can make an impression pointing towards the skies. And the sky was its reason of existance. Providing a platform for military personal to observe for enemy aircraft in the fifties.

Sunrise in Barcelona. Had to get up early for this one. There were lots of clubbers and drinkers hanging round from the night before, one or two of whom didn't like that I was photographing. them. The sun looks great coming up over this installation, The Wonded Shooting Star. By Markj Higham, www.markhigham.500px.com email me at mark@mhigham.co.uk
Some funny-looking plant. Don't know what it's called, tho.
Addendum:
Daana told me that's a young water horsetail (Equisetum fluviatile.)
Have a wonderful macro-monday, folks! :)
Nearing death, this tree continued to stand tall through last winter. Sadly, it had to be removed which occured during the summer of 2024. I will miss walking past it but the tree lived a long life and did not end life with a crash.
For fans of Stephen King's Dark Tower series, the clouds on the rIght are "following the beam" to the SW. Most aircraft follow that same path.

In the middle of a beautiful Aspen Grove near Crested Butte, Colorado these trees reach way up to the sky. I just laid down with my camera and took in the views as I looked straight up into the sky.
