To dispel the winter gloom, I've uploaded some photos taken earlier this year of the colourful Sunday flower market in Columbia Road, Bethnal Green.
A quiet street of Victorian houses during the week, Columbia Road comes alive on Sundays when the flower market takes over between 8am and 2pm. Many of the small shops also open on the day, adding to the atmosphere which also spills over into adjoining streets. It's very busy, so go early to avoid the crowds - or late to seek out bargains.

From the former Wapping Power Station
The Wapping Project was set up by Jules Wright, with the first exhibition being shown in 1993. The site was originally the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station (built 1890).
The power station, run by London Hydraulic Power Company, was originally steam-powered, before converting to use electricity later on.
The Wapping Project closed December 2013.
Joseph Truman started brewing in Brick Lane in 1683. The brewery grew over the years and had buildings on both sides of Brick Lane. Expansion continued into the 20th Century, but brewing ceased in the 1980s and the buildings have now been put to a variety of uses including a conference centre, restaurants and bars.

St. Matthew's church, St. Matthew's Row, Bethnal Green.
The church was designed by George Dance in 1742 and got half built but because of insufficient funds, fire, strikes and rows between the architect and the builders it wasn't completed until 1861. In 1940 the Germans bombed it and it was rebuilt in 1961.

Susan Sontag once said: "Time eventually positions most photographs, even the most amateurish, at the level of art." I hope you enjoy this work of art :-)
