Il appartient à la catégorie des canards plongeurs. Ses immersions totales durent de 15 à 45 secondes, parfois jusque sous la glace quand cela est nécessaire.

Le harle piette est un migrateur qui au début de l'automne, quitte la Scandinavie et le nord de la Russie pour venir s'installer sur les cotes de la mer du Nord et de la Manche. Auparavant, ce n'était un visiteur de nos régions que lors d'hivers rudes où les lacs et cours d'eau de l'est de l'Europe étaient pris par les glaces. Ces dernières années, il semble que des modifications soient intervenues dans les habitudes et malgré des hivers moins rigoureux, les harles piettes sont devenus des visiteurs réguliers.

C'est un carnivore qui se nourrit essentiellement de poissons, d'insectes aquatiques et de leurs larves.

La population nicheuse du Harle piette dans l'UE est en nette régression et est de l'ordre de 2.000 couples. Les causes principales de cette régression sont la modification de son habitat due au déboisement, la mise en culture ou la canalisation des rivières, la prédation par le Vison d'Amérique (Mustela vison) et la pollution des eaux.(source oiseaux.net)

I'm not totally sure that this car is chassis SL76/148, but a search on the internet for Chris Beighton throws up a lot of information regarding his purchase of this car, so I'm assuming the car seen here is the same as referenced online.

And if that is the case, the car has quite a history, getting written off in 1969 at the Nurburgring 1000km by driver Rothstein, and Lola replacing the car with a new chassis using the same chassis number. The car was then crashed again at Zeltweg, and was sold damaged to Barrie Smith who had Lola build a new car using just the roof section, engine and gearbox from the remains.Barrie then took the car to 1st place in 1970 at the Crystal Palace race (amongst other less successful outings).

Una farfalla cavolaia (almeno credo) fa incetta di nettare sui fiori di rovo. Così facendo non fa che perpetuare la simbiosi fra le piante e gli insetti pronubi. Le prime forniscono nutrimento ai secondi che ricambiano impollinandone i fiori.

Il parco naturale lombardo della Valle del Ticino è un'area naturale protetta istituita il 9 gennaio 1974 ed è il più antico parco regionale d'Italia nonché il più antico parco fluviale d'Europa. È situato lungo le rive del fiume Ticino interamente in Lombardia e interessa le province di Milano, formando una cintura verde intorno alla città, Pavia e Varese, in un'area di 91.410 ettari compresa tra il Lago Maggiore e il Po con uno sviluppo in lunghezza di circa 100 km.

Il parco confina con il parco naturale della Valle del Ticino in Piemonte, creato nel 1978.

This is the damage on one of the peanut bird feeders caused by the naughty squirrel. He has eaten a massive hole into the feeder along with most of the nuts. Still, He's too cute so I have forgiven him.

We woke up today (Sept 28th) to the news that the famous Sycamore tree which gives its name to Sycamore Gap on Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland had been cut down overnight.

The police have arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage. He's probably safer locked up at the minute, such is the real anger up here in the North-East at this mindless and irreparable act . www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-66952980
