Taken in the morning, at the top of Sigirya, an ancient palace belonging to a Prince who was a water architect. There is a pool at the top, before the edges drop off and one is left with the vista beyond.

Gotta be high to see where you're pushing! The barges moved by the Sause Bros. tugboat 'Mikiona' are huge. The photo (in the comments, below this photo) below shows Mikiona with the 102,000-barrel petroleum barge "Sunset Bay"; those barges have an engineered 'notch' that perfectly fits the bow of the tugboat! It makes maneuvering much more effective and safe. But when you are standing on the main bridge of the tug, the barge blocks the tug skipper's view. So this elevated platform allows for an extremely good view ahead of the barge, its sides, in fact all around the tug itself! Any 'blind spots' can be seen by the tug crew on the barge itself, and/or by the accompanying tug at the bow (front) of the barge.

It is cramped when 2 people are in it, it can be very hot, and if the wind is right wrong, smoke/exhaust can make things miserable. Add hours sometimes spent working here and you can see that the skipper can have more to contend with than "just moving the barge"! Bottom line, it's an incredible place to be!

Class 52 1057 Western Chieftain has just left Old Oak carrage sidings with a empty stock train for London Paddington. 20/07/1974. I photographed here for a couple hours in the morning Class 52,s 1025 1043 1066 were seen I then went round Old Oak depot 1008 1022 1040 1048 1058 were on shed.
