I walked around parts of Fort Langley today with a number of friends and used a gridded snoot on my flash. I thought I would play with the idea of low and isolated illumination perhaps a little like "in the day". I used my speed light on a low power on a ttl cord with the Rogue snoot on the front. I shot in manual and exposed for a very dark ambient and used the gridded flash to highlight.
"Fort Langley is the exact location where, a century and a half ago, a huge fur trade organization called the Hudson's Bay Company established a small post to trade with the First Nations of the West Coast. The enterprise grew, evolved, and influenced history, leading to the creation of the colony of British Columbia.
Furs were shipped to Europe via Cape Horn, produce was traded to the Russians in Alaska, local cranberries found their way to California, and Fraser River salmon was enjoyed as far away as Hawaii!
In 1858, rumours of gold on the Fraser River caused a massive influx of Americans to the area. Fearing annexation by the United States, British Columbia was proclaimed a Crown Colony on this site by James Douglas on November 19, 1858."

I feel a bit like jeapordizing this group pool... Anyhow my top is finished and I also like to share it with you (contibution to Anita's great idea!! and all your help!) I would like to finish it for Dec. 5th - Dutch sinterklaas, but chrismas might be just a little more realistic :) And I'm really debating how to quilt it.. straight/dense lines, fmq flowers, fmq folliage, green black or yellow thead....?

Looking out from the top of the tower at St Laurence's Church, a Grade I Listed building and the largest parish church in Ludlow, Shropshire. It was one of only 18 churches given a five-star rating in England's Thousand Greatest Churches by Simon Jenkins (1999) and is described as the "cathedral of the Marches". It is the 13th most popular free visitor attraction in the West Midlands, with 70,000 visitors per year.
The parish church was established as a place of worship in association with the founding of Ludlow by the Normans in the late 11th century. It is situated atop the hill around which the medieval town developed. The church was rebuilt in the year 1199 and has had several later additions and modifications. The tower is 135 feet (41 metres) high and commands expansive views of the town and surrounding countryside. Notable features include an extensive set of misericords in the choir stalls as well as fine stained glass windows.
Original Norman traces were found beneath the south porch, indicating some extant foundations exist from the 11th century AD. After its initial construction the church was expanded and rebuilt in 1199 to accommodate a growing town population. In the late Middle Ages considerable wealth accrued to the town based upon the wool trade. Correspondingly the church underwent several further additions in that era. The major works occurred between 1433 and 1471 with a virtual re-building of the nave, tower and chancel elements. The tower took on a Perpendicular style which was the preferred style of the late 15th century in England. The Saint John's Chapel on the north side was the chapel of the Palmers Guild, which thrived in the Late Middle Ages. The Palmers' Window within St John's Chapel illustrates the legend of King Edward the Confessor and St John the Evangelist by eight panels and was inspired by the Ludlow Palmers’ 13th century pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
In 1540, John Leland called the church very Fayre and large and richly adorned and taken for the Fayrest in all these parts.
The large east window of the chancel underwent restoration in the year 1832; this window depicts the martyrdom of St Laurence. The most extensive modern repairs and rehabilitation occurred in the period 1859 to 1861, which consisted primarily of interior modifications. Further major restorations took place between 1870 and 1909, including that on the tower in 1889-91, and to the roof in 1953-59.

Dearest flickr friends, I would like to use this opportunity in order to thank you for all your inspiring, motivating and very very very appreciated comments on my heart-and-soul-pictures I posted in 2005. I suppose you don't know how much it means for me... and how much it encourages me to follow my way and to break new ground...
Last summer on my 4-week-trip through the countries of former Yugoslavia and through Greece I was highly beleaguered by the feeling that I have to change my life and especially my job-related situation radically, but I was pretty afraid of this feeling and it took other few month to become acquainted with it, to understand and accept it as an urgent appeal of my soul and finally to draw the consequences... and I'm really going to do it: in the middle of this year I'll give up my job, I'll leave the house we moved in nine month ago, and I'm going into business for myself.
My life was never easy, but the last four years were especially hard. My younger daughter had a grave accident and will remain partially invalid for life, I had a lot of problems with my health too, and a couple of other bad things happened - I lost all my confidence, my joie de vivre, my courage, my hope... but at the lowest point I discovered the world of photography... the beauty of nature... my love for mother nature and all the small and at first glance inconspicuous things which in truth are so infinitely wondrous, magic, soulful... and slowly slowly my views of life and my emotions began to change... - It took a pretty long time till I really realised the changing; it was as if my soul always was some steps ahead of my heart and my mind... my soul was going to show me the way I have to go, but I was caught in fears and didn't dare to follow... but now, now I'm finally going to make up for my soul... I'm going to put all my heart and mind in the making up for my soul - and I feel courage, confidence, joie de vivre!
There will be a lot of hard work during the next half year. The preparation for the foundation of the own business will need a lot of time and most of my strength - but oh my goddess, I'll LOVE it!!! I'm not going to be successful in making money, I'm only going to realize a way of living my soul longs for all times. I'll start with nothing and it will be one of the biggest risks I ever took, but I'm going to put all my heart and all my soul's longing in it, and in addition I'm not short-witted and pretty level-headed and a little bit crazy - condensed: whatever may happen, it will be good since I'm back in life...
Of course my business will be concerned with nature and photography ;-)), and there also will be enough space for my daughter to do her own business and to realize her own dreams - this is the thing that makes me cry and laugh at the same time whenever I imagine the possibilities she will have despite of her handicap. And then I feel so inexpressibly and infinitely grateful...
So... (my goddess, am I long-tongued tonight!) …finally I want to thank you again and again for all your support, and then I’ve to tell you that for the next couple of months I won’t be able to spend a lot of time on flickr and commenting on your work - I'm sorry for that! but I suppose you'll understand and forgive me. ;-))
