Hericium abietis, a delicious tooth fungus growing on old firs.

Stockton, CA

Taking a bit of a recess here from flickr. Stockton has kind of beat me down again. A week after moving to this city, my car was stolen from right out front of my house. And just in time for my birthday, my motorcycle was stolen while it was parked right at the front door of Trader Joe's while I was working.

So, my enthusiasm for my regular photo safaris discovering the "beauty" of Stockton has kind of soured. However, my eyeballs can't stop noticing things and I figure I will be back to daily postings soon.

Cheers!

This mammoth tooth was reported through the Marine Aggregate Industry Archaeological Protocol for unexpected discoveries. It is virtually complete, even retaining a root. It is the third (last molar) of an woolly mammoth, about 35 years old, and probably dates to the Late Pleistocene. Woolly mammoths were in existence in Europe during the late Middle and Late Pleistocene (350,000-10,000 years ago).

It's the point in every young adult's life when they reach the 'age of wisdom'. And how are we greeted by it? A trip to oral surgeon's, of course!

My wisdom teeth were in pretty decent shape. Some dentists might have said I wouldn't be needing to get them removed at all. But just in case, we went ahead with the procedure and this is the final result.

I was actually up and running by day three after the surgery, and I had the stitches removed this afternoon. I wore the earrings into the dentist's office, and, as you might imagine, she got a real kick out it. So much so that she took photos to post on her website!

Teeth were cleaned and set with sterling silver. I cannot wait to wear these to the Festival of the Arts tomorrow.

COME SEE ME! I'll be around the main lawn tomorrow morning checking out the other artist's wares!

I finally had my second lower wisdom tooth out on Monday. It took them well over an hour to get it out. Luckily I was sedated so don't remember too much about it. I've been really swollen up since and my face has now turned yellowy brown but it's getting better. Last time it got infected and took months to heal properly but this time I have antibiotics and - touch wood - it seems to be healing ok.

I finally got to use this super cute tooth fairy pillow this weekend. My daughter lost her first tooth. Crazy how fast she is growing!!!

The tooth fairy visited her, left fairy dust all over her room, turned her water by her bed pink, and left her a little cash in the pocket of this pillow.

My daughter's smile the next morning was priceless. :-)

Just received a new tooth game (those tiny tooth pieces are so cute!!) I think the light is perfect today so I took this shoot.

The saber-toothed cat was as large as an African lion but much more heavily built. It was an active predator that relied on stealth and ambush rather than speed to catch its prey of bison, camels, horses and ground sloths.

They have red teeth and and looks like he is about to bite you but it is comforting to know that they are harmless and peaceful. But his looks can be deceiving! Take care, my dear Flickr friends!

The name "triggerfish" is derived from the action of their fins. Triggerfish have spines on the anterior dorsal fin that become erect whenever the fish feels threatened. The movement of the spines on the dorsal fin is said to resemble the movement of a trigger. The erect fins makes the triggerfish difficult for a predator to remove from a cave or crevice because their removal from their "safe place" is impeded by their erect fin spines. Having the dorsal fin spines in an erect position also makes it more difficult for predators to swallow them.

Niger triggerfish are also commonly called red-toothed triggerfish. As the name suggests their teeth are red, although typically not until the fish begins to mature.

Last night there was much excitement as my wee girl (she is 6) lost her very first baby tooth. The tooth fairy was rather generous as it was her first tooth.
