Those of us with a fascination for the odd and unusual, will love bleeding tooth fungus (Hydnellum peckii). It has a weird appearance straight out of a horror movie, as well as some potential medical uses. What is bleeding tooth fungus? It is a mycorrhiza with serrated basal spines and oozing, blood-like secretions topside. A mushroom with a flair for the dramatic that is native to the Pacific Northwest.

The cats didn't want to cooperate for a Tongue Tuesday photo but Tofu thinks it's time to replace Tongue Tuesday by Tooth Tuesday. This is not exactly a beautiful portrait of Tofu but I think it's a funny one and may make you smile too.
"Look at all the lovely little teeth, with bits of gum and blood on them! ♫

Kids putting teeth under their pillows is the most occultist stuff in the world. Yes, child put the discarded bone under your pillow...if you are lucky a demon will come and make her purchase. Sell your bones for riches, my child,...your youth will be spent soon.

I borrowed the 180mm macro and wanted to see what it can do. I grabbed some items in the shop that I thought would look cool with a macro lens capturing the images.
The Hairy Woodpecker has a "sweet tooth". They take advantage of the work sapsuckers have done and drink sap leaking from wells in the tree bark. They've also been seen pecking into sugar cane to drink the sugary juice.
Photographed in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado.
Tigers will allow this bird to pick its teeth clean, hence its nickname.

The Rufous Treepie (Dendrocitta vagabunda) is a treepie, native to the Indian Subcontinent and adjoining parts of Southeast Asia. It is a member of the crow family, Corvidae. It is long tailed and has loud musical calls making it very conspicuous. It is found commonly in open scrub, agricultural areas, forests as well as urban gardens. Like other corvids it is very adaptable, omnivorous and opportunistic in feeding.

I pretty sure this is a young form of Hydnellum Peckii - a Bleeding Tooth Fungus, as the underneath has spines or teeth and not pores as in Beefsteak fungus.
Known as Devil's Tooth or Strawberries and Cream, Bleeding Tooth fungus are not poisonous but instead manage to put off predators both human and animal by their extremely bitter taste.
The "birds of Costa Rice guide" was writing that the double-toothed kites can often be found when groups of monkeys feed in the trees and the fallen fruits scare out lizards - exactly that happened on that afternoon...so cool to watch this kite taking advantage of an other animal species behaviour.

At the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple once more... Each time a visit to the temple my luck seems to turn around with unexpected windfall. Looks like it's a blessing when I capture their images. Hopefully those who view it will be blessed with luck as well. The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple stands out as a tourist attraction down town in the heart Chinatown.
