Those of us with a fascination for the odd and unusual, will love bleeding tooth fungus (Hydnellum peckii). It has a weird appearance straight out of a horror movie, as well as some potential medical uses. What is bleeding tooth fungus? It is a mycorrhiza with serrated basal spines and oozing, blood-like secretions topside. A mushroom with a flair for the dramatic that is native to the Pacific Northwest.

I borrowed the 180mm macro and wanted to see what it can do. I grabbed some items in the shop that I thought would look cool with a macro lens capturing the images.
Strange fungus. What is bleeding tooth fungus? Hydnellum peckii is a genus of tooth fungi in the family Bankeraceae (order Thelephorales).
One of the better-known species is the weird pinkish-white Hydnellum peckii, also known as "strawberries and cream" or as the "bleeding tooth fungus" due to the red droplets that appear on the pinkish or whitish fruitbodies. The fruitbodies of its members grow by slowly enveloping nearby bits of grass and vegetation.

The Hairy Woodpecker has a "sweet tooth". They take advantage of the work sapsuckers have done and drink sap leaking from wells in the tree bark. They've also been seen pecking into sugar cane to drink the sugary juice.

The Rufous Treepie (Dendrocitta vagabunda) is a treepie, native to the Indian Subcontinent and adjoining parts of Southeast Asia. It is a member of the crow family, Corvidae. It is long tailed and has loud musical calls making it very conspicuous. It is found commonly in open scrub, agricultural areas, forests as well as urban gardens. Like other corvids it is very adaptable, omnivorous and opportunistic in feeding.

The small sharp peak in the distance on the right is the namesake of the Beartooth Mountain Range.
"The Bears Tooth (11,920 feet (3,630 m)) is a mountain spire in the Beartooth Mountains in the U.S. state of Montana. The peak is in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in Custer National Forest, and is adjacent to Beartooth Mountain. Bears Tooth is the namesake for numerous other points in the region and the Beartooth Mountains themselves." wikipedia
The top of the Pass is impressive with the deep grooves, canyons, grottos and lakes created by massive glaciers over many centuries....like this.
I pretty sure this is a young form of Hydnellum Peckii - a Bleeding Tooth Fungus, as the underneath has spines or teeth and not pores as in Beefsteak fungus.
Known as Devil's Tooth or Strawberries and Cream, Bleeding Tooth fungus are not poisonous but instead manage to put off predators both human and animal by their extremely bitter taste.

This succulent flower is long lasting and starts off pink, but then develops some other colours. Aechmea flower (I think as I got the plant from somewhere lost in the mists of time!).
I'm catching up with my 100 Flowers Project.
Once in a blue moon, an Oriole might pass by our back yard and is tempted by a sweet tooth for the slice of orange left as enticement - though it happens infrequently at best - and usually when a camera isn't handy. Consequently, we went looking for them today and although hearing them more often than seeing them - after biking along 20 km of trail, found this handsome fellow.
