21,233 Ashlyn's missing tooth

I have to admit, I'm a touch squeamish. I have no desire to inflict pain upon my child. So with this, his second loose baby tooth, it took two nights of wrangling and wriggling...and still, it was he who did the deed and yanked this little sucker out. My brave little man.

Carcharodon megalodon Agassiz, 1843 - fossil shark tooth from the late Cenozoic of eastern America. (centimeter scale)

This specimen has a worn tooth tip (apex) & some abraded serrations. This is the labial surface (facial surface) of the tooth - the side facing outward. Labial surfaces of shark teeth tend to be flattish. The opposite side, the lingual side (the side facing the tongue) tends to be convex. The dark-colored lower quarter of the tooth represents the root; everything above is the crown.

---------------------

Carcharodon megalodon (fondly referred to as “meg” by fossil shark lovers) is an extinct giant white shark (a.k.a. megatooth shark). Like all sharks, the skeleton was cartilaginous, and the only commonly preserved fossil remains are teeth. The teeth of this ancient giant shark had serrated edges, which function to readily slice through flesh. Estimates of original body size vary from 12 meters to >35 meters long.

Fossil remains of Carcharodon megalodon are widespread in inferred warm-water marine deposits of Miocene & Pliocene age. Considering the size of megatooth sharks, their diet is inferred to have consisted principally of whales (shark tooth marks on fossil whale bones are not uncommon).

Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii, Lamniformes, Carcharodontidae (or Lamnidae, or Otodontidae)

Kicking up a spray of dirt, a massive smilodon, a mountain of fur and fangs, leaps out of the murky mists of time. With its muscular frame, razor sharp claws, and long curved teeth, this predator is a force to be reckoned with.

Made for my son's first loose tooth thanks to the great tutorial at mmmcrafts.blogspot.com/2009/02/tooth-pillow-revisited.html

I got a wisdom tooth pulled last week. After looking at it, I'm surprised that I hardly felt anything. Note the chunk of my gums still attached in the front. I took this immediately after I got home. A couple of hours later, the gum had gotten all shriveled and gross.

Safety is paramount when we make the Periodic Table of Videos, with many precautions put in place before any reaction.

But accidents do happen and Dr Sam Tang was the unfortunate victim recently.

Was it a violent cesium explosion... Out of control potassium!?

No, Sam simply bumped her mouth against the "carbon dioxide cannon" she has used a million times demonstrating chemistry to school children.

And the cameras weren't even rolling... Sam was simply making some adjustments between takes!

A total professional, Sam packed up the lab before being whisked to the dentist, holding shards of her front tooth throughout!

We're happy to report the dentist worked miracles and Sam looks as good as new!

The video in question can now be seen at www.periodicvideos.com/videos/mv_carbon_dioxide_two.htm

Front Page!

I found three very large Megalodon teeth and at least 70 smaller teeth. The shark could have been from 30' to 50' long. It was by far the biggest and most powerful shark ever to exist. It is also recognized as the largest carnivorous fish known to have existed.

The tooth is roughly 23 million years old!

Your smile creates an immediate, subconscious, visual impact on people you meet. A brighter smile gives the impression of youth, vitality, radiant health, happiness, and warmth. A bright smile is perceived as a healthy smile.Professional tooth whitening in a dental office is the preferred whitening method because even though stronger agents are applied, the rest of the mouth, including the gums, is protected from these materials.
