A scholarly workbench –as the central App- that is able to pull data from various places (eg Repository, Subject specific tools, experimentation devices, etc). The scholar uses the workbench to track what they are doing with the data (e.g. new papers, new reports, experiments, annotation). Workbench is providing a trace of all the data it knows about and sending it back as audit report (metadata stream) to the repository. The workbench will check in/out information and track output.
Cross Repository Challenges:
-Define a implementation neutral format to track these logged events across repository platforms
-Setting up workbench so it can get data from various sources (API)
-Setting up workbench to work with specific subject areas (APIs being specific yet general enough)
-Knowledge of external applications and how to interact
-Logging from the tools that are being used by the scholar into the workbench (plugging tools into workbench)
Scenario:
-Proof of concept scenario: two services (limited number of data sources) that the workbench is logging data from (word-processing + specialized research tool).
-Workbench sync with repository and inputting any additional outputs or data to do with object and workflow.
Precedents (Standards, APIs, Projects): BPEL, jBPM, YAWL, Gdata, APP, Taverna Project, MyExperiment Project, Open Social API, ???

Pegboard full of crafting tools. Which look a lot like regular tools, but that pair of scissors better not EVER touch anything but paper. ;)
The Learning Studio hosted a workshop organized by Michael Swaine and Amy Franceschini, in which 12 local artists were invited to make tools that expand our natural perceptual limitations.
Outside the tourist attraction of the Iron Ore Mine outside of Norway, Michigan there is a tall pole with shovels, picks, and axes into the wood. It is cool and I am sad that I did not get a more interesting angle, but I wanted to get the entire pole. I thought it would look good with a solid contrast look. The sky was so white and overcast that there was nothing to stand out, therefore I tuned up the brightness in the sky for this picture.

New tool testing... think it needs a bit of work!!. Didn't manage to get out till gone 10 tonight so was only able to get an hour down the beach!! But it was nice to spend a bit of time winding down before work. ha ha!!
(taken on one exposure, no additions after the exposure. I use aperture3 as a RAW converter and will adjust levels, saturation, white balance, brightness and some minor cropping if required.)
