I was told by some local birders that seeing a White-eyed Vireo in Cuyahoga County in November was a pretty nice find. I was also told that getting a clear shot of one of these quick movers is pretty tough. I would have to agree. Taken in a thicket of low bushes at Huntington Reservation Metro park.
Remember I told Marty that he couldn't go Outside last winter because a storm was coming and that I would take him to see Mrs Ruby when it got nice.. Well it's so nice that it is right down Hot so Marty and I went to visit and He sat out in the sun but Mrs Ruby and I stayed in the house in the AC... Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday, Everybody!!!

My neighbour told me that during the War, his uncle was responsible for single-handedly bringing down no fewer than 9 Messerschmitts. He was the worst mechanic the Luftwaffe ever had! This picture is of a Spanish built version from the 1950s, Hispano HA-1112 Buchon complete with RR Merlin engine and rounded wingtips.
He told me he always knew how to fly. "You need to align your chest and your arms, that is all it takes. The problem is, I am too heavy now." He said and winked at me. I laughed but deep inside, I knew he wasn't lying.

I’m sure I’ve told you before that I get very embarrassed about taking photos int he front garden. However, having taken the dog for a walk this morning I just couldn’t resist, besides Sunday mornings, there’s not too many people up and about.
I had realised last year that I’m a bit shy on the old photography front so had bought more bulbs and planted them in the seclusion of our back garden. They’re coming up, but slightly behind the ones in the front.

I was all excited last weekend when someone told me there was a Montezuma Quail at the riparian preserve. We found the quail and I thought, OK it could be 2 female Montezuma Quail. But doing some research it looked more like a female Bobwhite quail. Then the next day I saw an ornithologist that I recognized and and told him that I'd seen a Bobwhite (very rare for this area). He said it could be. Or, he said, sometimes domesticated Egyptian Quail escape and make their way to the preserve. I looked it up. Sure enough. The pinkish feet are a giveaway. Egyptian Quail. I think also called Common Quail in Europe. I guess technically, its a lifer, but a domesticated bird just doesn't feel like a lifer. 😜
Some photography expert told me that a few years ago - always turn round and look behind you - you may get a totally new perspective. Well - never more true here. We were facing east and mesmerised by the amazing sunrise in front of us and getting off a few shots. I turned round 180 degrees to face west and luckily witnessed this incerdible sky reflecting the sunrisee

I told you already about my little playground… this jetty. This shot was probably seen already a million times before. But I always wanted to shoot something like this myself. Now I got a little tiny problem: I just can’t decide which one of three versions I like most. I do have a favorite but it changes from time to time… Let me know which one you prefer!
On my previous post called "One for the show", I told a tale of a photojournalist that wanted to shoot some footage of me doing my thing at Bear Lake in the Rocky Mountains. He has sent me a link of a different show that included some of the footage from that day. I was very nervous about doing this show because I was running on empty having slept in the car the night before and after 48 hours managed to grab less than 4 hours of sleep. I knew I looked like hell but couldn't resist being part of the show. After watching the show I ran to the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror. Wow, I've heard that the camera adds 10 pounds but not 10 years. I was really reluctant to post this link but after some contemplation I decided that I'm getting older and that's just the way it is. The show turned out great and Chris Hansen did a fantastic job of shooting it. I appear 3 times during the show with the longest being about 3 mins long.
Unfortunately, I was wearing the condom tip hat that day and a matching neck sock to make the effect complete. LOL
Here's the link and my biggest appearance is at about 34 mins into the show. I have an small appearance before this and after this segment and they use my commentary in a couple other places during the show. Take a look if your interested but please be gentle. Hehe. :)

Yesterday my friend Madonna told me she was walking at the edge of the village at sunset when waves of ducks passed overhead, silent except for the sound of their wings against the air. The waterfowl haven't begun their migration - they're the last birds to leave - but they are now staging on local lakes and wetlands in large flocks. I was reminded that this month provides my last chance to see a lot of species that I like to photograph, including the American Avocet, seen above.
Most shorebirds depart for their winter habitat sometime in August, but I have photographed the American Avocet here in Saskatchewan in early October. On an August day three years ago, I carried my tripod along the shore of a small, shallow lake, toward three or four dozen avocets, that were feeding at the other end, then sat down and waited. Sure enough, they gradually moved toward me. They were well aware of my presence, and must have decided that so long as I sat quietly, I was not a threat. By then, most of them had changed over into their non-breeding plumage, a somewhat more formal look that I've always liked. Singly and in small groups, they continued foraging as they passed me, first going left to right, and then reversing direction for a second pass. The still water created a perfect background. Voila!

About a year ago, I told someone I knew that I really like good cover versions of songs, so they gifted me with a list of their favourite twenty cover versions of songs. Anyway, long story short, last September I glanced at the list again, and suddenly thought about how much fun it might be to make a photo inspired by each of those songs.
This picture was inspired by song number 5 in the playlist, Dreams, originally done by Fleetwood Mac, but the version on my list is performed by The Electric Peanut Butter Company.
I'll admit, I struggled with this one a bit, and thus ended going for a fairly literal translation of a few key parts of the song, particularly focusing on the words: loneliness, heartbeat, rain, and crystal visions (literally, I am toying with a crystal heart in the rain, cold and alone).
Fun fact: While I was doing this particular photo shoot, I did get a bit distracted by a guy hitting on me while he stood nearby gawping at me. It was a nice enough chat, but it went nowhere in the end. It turns out, the romcoms might be rather overplaying the romantic side of two people being together in the rain.

Locals told me that the famous photographer liked the rusty looks of this former machine shop in Healdsburg, California, which she and relatives purchased recently to convert into an art gallery. Or simply it has been for years the last undeveloped property in downtown Healdsburg, the other one being an old gas station.

Yesterday I was at work when a co-worker told me he saw an American crow running on the lot but it couldn't fly.The door in my bay was open (I work in a garage as a mechanic).The crow ended up walking in my shop to hide in a corner.I shut the door and started searching for it with other co-workers. We finally spotted it behind a scrap parts bin.We moved the bin and I was able to grab the injured crow.We put it in a box,poked some holes so it can breathe and with my boss agreement , I left work right away to bring the crow to the wildlife rescue hospital near by.It had a broken wing and was still very energetic .I gave a donation so they can take care of it.I will be informed on its progression through the week and hopefully I can be there for its release.This is a picture I took a while ago,I don't have a picture of the injured crow since my main concern was to save it.
Hier, j'étais au travail lorsqu'un collègue m'a dit qu'il avait vu un corbeau d'Amérique courir sur le stationnement mais il ne pouvait pas voler. La porte de mon atelier était ouverte (je travaille dans un garage en tant que mécanicien). Le corbeau est entrer en marchant dans mon atelier pour se cacher dans un coin. J'ai fermé la porte et j'ai commencé à le chercher avec d'autres collègues. Nous l'avons finalement repéré derrière un bac à pièces détachées. Nous avons déplacé le bac et j'ai pu attraper le corbeau blessé. Nous l'avons mis dans une boîte, lui avons fait des trous pour qu'il puisse respirer et avec l'accord de mon patron, j'ai immédiatement quitté le travail pour amenez le corbeau à l'hôpital de sauvetage de la faune à proximité. Il avait une aile cassée et était toujours très énergique. J'ai fait un don pour qu'ils puissent en prendre soin. Je serai informé de sa progression tout au long de la semaine et j'espère pouvoir être là pour sa sortie.C'est une photo que j'ai prise il y a quelques temps, je n'ai pas de photo du corbeau blessé puisque ma principale préoccupation était de le sauver.

Janet 59 told me she knows the plant surrounding Camille as "Honesty" (or lunaria). I'm more familiar with the less poetic name "Money Plant"--for the silvery oval film left when the seeds have dropped from the pods.
I used Honesty for the title because Camille has that "Can we talk?" look, and the lunaria reminds me of talk balloons. (She has a lot to say.)
