Truth be told, I was going to use the image, "Unexpected Starfish Shells" that I posted for Smile on Saturday this week since it was originally made for a "Stars" theme. Well it's been snowing since 1100 this morning so not much going on and I thought I'd try something out. After a few attempts to get the lighting worked out and exposure I think this is what I was after. Starfish at last and sporting quite the suite of armor!
Meyer Optik 50mm f/1.8 Oreston, 4 Image Focus Stack shot at f/8. Lighting was principally from the left, nothing in the front or the texture when flat. The Starfish measures approximately 6 inches across.

Hello there,
I just love the colour combo of the poppy and veronica which I spotted on a neighbourhood walk. The homeowner told me that each year she purposely sprinkles poppy seeds in between certain flowers to get varied combinations of colours and shapes. I always enjoy talking with her just as much as taking pictures of her flowers.

What stories can be told about the beautiful daisy species one can have in the garden? A story of life, a story of beauty and decay, a story about longing for the light.
Maybe, if daisies could have a diary, it would be much the same as ours.

Yesterday Marybeth told me that the swallows were making nests in the barn and kept landing on the fence right outside the door. It seemed like a good time to configure the long lens and see what I could catch. The whole time I was moving about, Snoopy, Marybeth and Brianne's horse, was very interested in what I was doing. He's never really been too interested in me (unless I have a peppermint candy for him) and it seemed odd. Poor guy, it's sad to see him bored, he misses his little pony girlfriend.
Well unlike all the master bird photographers that I follow here on flickr, I generally don't have much patience when it comes to waiting around for a bird to do something interesting. A lot of nothing and I was ready to go back in the house, I looked over at Snoopy and it seemed like he was posing for me so I caught this shot of him. In reality, he was probably hoping I would give him a peppermint candy. When I took a look on the computer I was a bit surprised but 500mm did him pretty good with the soft light of the slightly hazy, smoke filled air.
I was told that Ansel Adams said that after you've taken a photograph that you like, look behind you and there's another one.
Or words to that effect.
If anyone can confirm it, it will put my mind to rest.

We were told numerous times how it rained essentially every day in July. Clearly that was not the case in the days leading up to our tour, as the stream of dust from the tour buses clearly shows. The story of the Alamo is a strange story. General Houston told Co-Commanders, Bowie and Travis to abandon the Alamo. They didn't. Santa Anna, much like Napoleon and Waterloo, showed up without his artillery. Unfortunately, for the defenders of the Alamo, Santa's artillery showed up and it was on the 13th day..Hummm. Indeed, an unlucky number that day. If they disobeyed orders, than why are they looked upon as heroes. Because they took the blunt of the attack and slowed Santa Anna down while Houston was busy gathering men to make a stand. Which, is why I speak English and not Spanish..:)) Here's what the Internet says
he Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing all of the Texian defenders. Santa Anna's cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians—both Texas settlers and adventurers from the United States—to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the revolution.
Several months previously, Texians had driven all Mexican troops out of Mexican Texas. About 100 Texians were then garrisoned at the Alamo. The Texian force grew slightly with the arrival of reinforcements led by eventual Alamo co-commanders James Bowie and William B. Travis. On February 23, approximately 1,500 Mexicans marched into San Antonio de Béxar as the first step in a campaign to retake Texas. For the next 10 days, the two armies engaged in several skirmishes with minimal casualties. Aware that his garrison could not withstand an attack by such a large force, Travis wrote multiple letters pleading for more men and supplies, but the Texians were reinforced by fewer than 100 men.
In the early morning hours of March 6, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. After repelling two attacks, the Texians were unable to fend off a third attack. As Mexican soldiers scaled the walls, most of the Texian soldiers withdrew into interior buildings. Defenders unable to reach these points were slain by the Mexican cavalry as they attempted to escape.

Just because it's Halloween and make you smile !
I change the small photo and instead of my beloved Puffins I put a photo of me and another one of an Arctic Tern. Both apparently have nothing to do with each other. Except that it is ! On my face the blood is real blood, most had been wiped off by the friend who took the photo. This one was taken on the Isle of May in July 2019. You should know that these Terns nest along the footpath that starts at the pier. These birds, to protect their nests, attack with their beaks the top of the visitor's heads who pass in the path.
They first target the tallest people in a group. This is the reason why it is recommended to wear a hat. For my Scottish and English Flickr's friends who know these Isles (not only on the May), I precise that I did wear a hat. It was my third visit to the Isle of May and since the first time I wore a hat !
It was time to join the boat to return to Anstruther but I noticed two or three visitors behind me so I told to myself I had enough time for a few more shots. Being alone in front of this bird I was the tallest and the other Terns had a great time on my head. As the head was busy, one of them attacked me UNDER the hat !! So, if I have an advice : next time go with a full face helmet 😉

J'ai changé la photo du médaillon et, a la place de mes Macareux moine bien aimés, j'ai mis une photo de moi et une photo de Sterne Arctique dans mes images. Apparemment, ces deux photos n'ont rien a voir ensemble. Sauf que si ! Sur mon visage, c'est du vrai sang, la plus grande partie qui recouvrait ma joue ayant été essuyée par l'amie qui a pris la photo. Celle-çi a été prise sur l'Ile de May, en juillet 2019. Ces Sternes nichent en bordure du sentier piéton qui part de l'embarcadère. Ces oiseaux, pour protéger leur nids, piquent le sommet des têtes des visiteurs. Ces Sternes visent en premier les personnes les plus grandes du groupe. C'est la raison pour laquelle il est fortement recommandé de porter un couvre-chef. Pour mes amis Flickr Ecossais et Anglais qui connaisent ces iles (pas seulement sur l'Ile de May d'ailleurs), je précise que je portais un chapeau. C'était ma troisième visite sur cette île et depuis la première fois j'ai toujours porté un chapeau !
Le moment était venu de rejoindre le bateau mais comme j'avais remarqué deux ou trois personnes qui traînaient derrière moi, je me suis dit que j'avais suffisamment de temps pour quelques photos supplémentaires. Etant seule devant cet oiseau, je me suis retrouvée être la plus grande et les autres Sternes s'en sont donné à coeur joie sur ma tête ! Comme cette dernière était occupée, l'une d'elles m'a piqué SOUS mon chapeau ! Aussi, si j'ai un conseil : la prochaine fois, y aller avec un casque intégral 😉

Andrew told me with some excitement last week that there was at least one Tawny Frogmouth chick in the nest at Woodlands Historic Park. It seemed quite late in the season and I was wondering if the clutch had not hatched successfully.
I found some time yesterday afternoon to pop down and have a look. I got a wee bit lost coming in from another direction when the classic silhouette caught my eye. There was dad and the one chick perched on a branch away from the nest. They generally have 2 to three chicks so not sure if some didn't make it but it felt alittle lonely seeing just the one beautiful baby.
My daughter sits her final VCE exam today and I am so looking forward to that weight being lifted!
It is worth celebrating that today is a special day in Victoria with 28 days of no virus, deaths, mystery cases or community transmission and we have officially reached eradication. To all those in other places that are still at the height of the pandemic, my thoughts are with you and I hope that you too can get to a much better place than where you are now.

Someone told me about this lovely little bus shelter made from a disused Oil Tank. I met the owner, a local farmer, who said he made it for his two children, who used to get cold & wet waiting for the school bus. The local council tried to make him take it away but they couldn't because it was on his land! Tee tee.
