Single shot astro landscapes can require tricky timing, like catching the only passing vehicle at night while using a self timer, during the changing light of astronomical twilight! Tamron lens, processed in Lightroom with daylight white balance.

Trying to take an image of the acorn cap and a chickadee landed on it.....twist of the camera and I got a cool image.

I dont know what equipment he used but Im sure he got some great shots.

The Antelope Island State Park close to Salt Lake City is a great location especially during sunset as you can see. The bad thing is the park closes at sunset which means there is only a few minutes window to get some pictures.

''The Face you make when the Japanese decided to invade''

A soldier of the Kuomintang of the national revolutionary army (NRA) of the Republic of China is expressing his opinion on the war between China and the Empire Of Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

The name of the soldier is Cheng Zhoyi, a mere private in the army who joined in order to earn some cash, the timing itself couldn’t be better when the Japanese decided to invade China, which based on the picture he wasn’t too happy about it.

Despide his distaste of the situation, many of his comrades were rather eager to see actual combat, however some had no other choice to fight as they either volunteered because they wanted to protect their families or were press-ganged by the KMT in order to fill in the declining ranks of their men as the Japanese superior military hardware was proven to be no match compared to the Chinese, however this was compensated by the determination by the Chinese and the strength of the people. Something Cheng Zhoyi also shows in his face, the face of anger and annoyance of the invasion of the Imperial Japanese Army as well as a shown of determination. He has indeed seen some things.

People who are united as one in a time of despair and needs, seen throughout a single face.

Despide this scene never made it into the final brickfilm the event has been adapted in multiple brickfilms I made over the course of years, the links of these brickfilms can be found below.

I waited pretty well all year to get this shot, at this time of the year the sun is at its most southerly point (when rising off the eastern horizon) and it just lines up with this channel at Little Bay NSW.

A colourful building in Montreal that I stumbled upon recently. It is the new Convention Centre. At a certain time in the afternoon, if the light is just right, the colour from the windows is reflected onto the street.

I had to put in a couple of hours at work this morning but finished up by 0730. The UP has a 6 day a week Z train that hits Springfield in the 0745-0815 window - just ahead of ATK 302. Today was no exception. I made it downtown and hiked up the parking garage and heard horns to the north as I reached the top! I was happy to have an ACE leader but disappointed with the graffiti. The Alton / GM&O depot is awake as 302 was only 45 minutes ahead and passengers were milling around the platform.

Many of my trips to the former Boston & Maine’s East Deerfield Yard in west-central Massachusetts were not without a stop at my other favorite spot of Millers Falls. Here the north-south Central Vermont Railway and the east-west B&M would meet and the tracks of both railroads ran side-by-side for a bit. The CV southbound job to Palmer crosses the Millers River and I somehow snapped the shutter right before shadow engulfed the lead engine.

Good timing. Not planned either. This is Fraser castle. A frequent enough visit where new ideas are required.

This shot is from last Thursday evening's shoot with fellow photographers Jave & Jimmy.

Like so many of our outings, this one started out with us rushing out to our destination with little time to spare. And when I say rushing, I mean driving really fast. Triple digit fast, if you catch my drift. And I'd like to mention that I was not the one behind the wheel. Because if I was, we would have been driving a cool 65 mph and probably would not have made it here on time to take any shots. Although, in retrospect, the timing did not make much of a difference, since after about 20 minutes of shooting it started to rain on us continually for the next few hours. But, we would not be denied our shots on this day, because before we left San Jose, Jave, most intelligently, reminded me to bring my huge golfing umbrellas. These suckers are 7 foot in diameter. So, we did, what I like to call "Team Shooting" where one photographer would hold the two umbrellas over the three of us while the other two took their shots and we would rotate and took turns shooting. It was a little crowded and you may notice that my companions comps are fairly similar to my own, but that is the price you pay for shooting under umbrellas in the rain. This shot was actually taken when the rain let up for a bit. Good times :-)

After we were done at this location, we headed to baker beach to try a shot of the bridge from the other side of the fort, but as luck would have it. I got a business related call while walking out to our spot that I could not ignore and spend the next 45 minutes on the phone with a client while standing under one of my umbrellas in the rain. Not so much fun. But, I didn't feel that bad, because while I was working, my two amigos where struggling to get shots in the rain and finally gave up just about the time I hung up with my client. I think our conversation went something like...Did you guys get anything good? My amigos reply...Crap...lets get out of here. So, off we went to Tommy's in the City for some Hot Roast Beef Sandwiches and the warmth of in doors. I got a couple of more shots from this shots, but they are fairly similar with different cloud motion, so I'll save those for another day. Hope you guys enjoy the image and just remember...when it comes to umbrellas, size is King. :-)

Enjoy :-)

Thank you to all who stopped by to look at my other photos and comment and favorite them. It is much appreciated.

Timing is everything, a split second later and I would have missed the water droplet falling from this loon's beak. That's why we've got high speed shooting now I guess, so we don't miss the slightest detail.

August 11, 2012

I traveled miles and waited hours for an imagined beautiful sunset in this barren wetland. But as the sun was setting—and just as it touched the horizon—it faded and disappeared behind a thick, gray smog.

Bad timing? Bad weather? Or maybe both.

the measure of timing

Timing worked out for me to catch the CSX OCS at Berea on May 28, 2015 on the way to catch a flight at the nearby Hopkins airport. Classy train and i was glad it worked out. Thanks to the NE Ohio network for the headsup ( you know who you are).

but the secret is .. to be too late !

The afternoon my snowtires were put on.

FlickrFriday - Timing

I believe this is the first time I was able to catch a train coming under the DeKalb coal tower at the exact time the setting sun was shining through one of the windows of the coal tower. There is only a minute or two of opportunity for this, so even though the sun was a little muted due to clouds, the timing was just perfect on this 8-29-17 date.

If i could frame full speed boat in picture then it will be an amazing picture. :'(

There are some photographic challenges unique to coastal environments which can ultimately make or break a photo. For a given composition to work, you not only need the right time of day, but the right wave from the right tide, which may only happen once a week...ideally with a half-decent sunset. I'm pleased to say this one worked out!

Also, a thank you to Joseph Rossbach and Kurt Budliger for serendipitously holding a workshop in the area. If I hadn't noticed a dozen tripods from their workshop the night before, I might have missed this location.
