WREROC Mk II Missile Camera
The Weapons Research Establishment Roll Orientation Camera was designed in 1957 to allow scientists to document the extent of missile roll during flight.
The camera carries a 186º ultra-wide angle lens (designed by RA Dixon), but the lens has been restricted to a 2mm wide slit. The film was moved at a set speed and thus generated a continual negative that always showed the horizon in the image. The negative also included registration marks and timing signals. This allowed Australian and British weapons engineers to accurately assess the onset as well as extent of missile roll during the flight.

This is a photograph from the annual Navan Athletic Club 6KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held at Claremont Stadium, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Friday 8th May 2015 at 20:00. The race is organised as a memorial to former club members Simon Cumbers and Paddy Hyland. The weather defied its position in the calendar as a race in early May with dreary wet conditions for the race. However the conditions for running were actually reasonably good considering the weather of the previous 24 hours. The race starts about 1KM away from the Claremont Stadium with the finish on the tartan track.

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

October 29-30, 2022, wildland firefighters from the Stanislaus National Forest, and researchers from the Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest research station conducted a 21 acre prescribed burn on the Tuolumne Experimental forest. The prescribed burn is a part of a Timing of Fire Study allowing researchers to compare how seasonal conditions affect the outcomes of prescribed fire.
The prescribed burn area in the experimental forest is a fire adapted ecosystem, which historically saw fire every 5 or 6 years, and can be seen when examining the tree rings on stumps around the forest. Due to fire suppression fire has not been a part of the landscape since 1889 allowing researchers to study the effects of wildfire reintroduced in similar areas.
Approximately 30 wildland firefighters and two engines where onsite to ensure that the prescribed burn adhered to the guidelines outlined in the burn plan. Prescribed fire is only implemented under a certain set of conditions, when fuel moistures are higher, temperatures are lower, among other criteria. Good thing I grilled early, because a little thunderstorm popped up out of nowhere, and it poured for a little while. Big fat drops of rain.. And as much as my attitude has changed about grilling, doing it in the rain still sucks!
My next house will have an outdoor kitchen that's rain-proof, and it'll be a whole new ball game. I want a lanai that's wide enough to stay dry under even in a driving rainstorm, because I do love to watch it rain - I just don't want to get wet while I watch. Or killed by lightning..
Deliberate, By Chance...
"Maybe chance is God’s other name?" Somebody who was smarter than me, said that to me once. Most people I know are smarter than me, so that part was not memorable, however... what I have noticed is that the experience of what we call serendipity — the gladsome coincidence of two events — often creeps into my viewfinder.
Is it timing or “co-incidence”?
Co-incidence means that two events unexpectedly happen at the same time.
Timing, it seems to me, is more deliberate. Especially with a camera.
In any event, both of these things show up in my photos, often. Many of my images have unexpected happenstance in them.
It's the 'because why' part I wonder about.
I find that sort of creepy yet fascinating.

1996 Jeep 4.0l engine timing chain. Original timing chain showing 20 pins between the marks compared to the 15 Chilton's says should be there.
Gary Kawabata flew a nice 5.5" bird on a J315R. Unfortunately, all you can see is the flame... my timing was just a little off here. Still, a neat shot!
This is a photograph from the 1st running of the Carbury GAA 10KM Run which was held in Derrinturn, Carbury, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 28th July 2013 at 12:00. The race was organised by the GAA club and sponsored by various businesses in the locality. The race was very well organised with excellent stewarding and support. Well done to everyone involved.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: There was about 60 participants
Weather: There was hot July sunshine for the duration of the race. There was little or no breeze.
Course: The race starts and finishes at Carbury GAA clubhouse. The race starts and heads southwards along the Sli na Slainte to the main Edenderry Road (R403) at Windmill Cross and proceeds along 'The Back Road' to the Grand Canal at Ticknevin Bridge where the course turns sharply and back to head northwards along the Bog Road to meet the R403 again. Finally for the last 2 KM the race passes through the westerly end of Derrinturn village before following the road to Carbury GAA for the finish. Overall the route is reasonably flat with the only significant rise at the Canal bridge near 5KM.

Refreshments: There was a very impressive selection of refreshments including soup and sandwiches in the GAA Clubhouse afterwards.

The second running of the Clongowes 5KM Road Race and Fun Run was held in Clongoweswood College, Clane, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday March 24th 2013 at 11:00. The wonderful spring weather for the race last year was replaced by a biting Artic wind and a very strong head-wind for the runners coming into the finish along the avenue. Almost 400 participants braved the conditions and lined up on the start line for this event. This is a charity event and all proceeds will go towards the International Camp for Young Disabled, which takes place in August 2013.
The race starts and finishes in the grounds of the college. The start of the race is at the southerly part of the grounds near to Clane Golf Club. The race then proceeds out onto the Clane Kilcock Road, takes a back-road route to the Prosperous road and then back to the college. The final four hundred meters are down the wonderful straight tree lined avenue from the archway at the gate.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the organisation of this race. The race met the high starts that it set last year. This race has the potential to become a very prominent annual fixture on the North Leinster running calendar.

Needle to hook timing on a Singer 401 G which is similar to the 401a.
The lower timing mark must be aligned with the needle bar bushing Z when the hook is in the center of the needle. This view is taken from an angle which make it appear that the hook is already past the centre of the needle. This is not the case if you look straight at the needle.
