A wee timelapse from Friday night of the Merry Dancers. Shot outside Forres about 9-10ish on 06/11/15
I had a 40 mins before the last bus left Machu Pichu. In all my excitement I messed up the setup a little. But the place was so enchanting i wanted to share.

I had always intended to take some form of timelapse imagery in Chicago. I was just looking for the right location. And I had only 3 days to find out the location and shoot. Thankfully, once I stepped into view of the Cloud Gate, I had exactly figured out where to shoot this timelapse.
The surreal curves of the bean which positively glow in the light of morning reflect the warmly lit buildings of the downtown skyline with a contortion that would put any other mirror to shame. And the weather patterns were also quite favorable for such imagery - fast moving clouds provided for a good backdrop for the entire scene giving a sense of dynamism.
And for the best part, the crowds. They were like ants scurrying allover the place trying to take pictures with myriad reflections. I certainly don't blame them for that and it was a great addition to the scene.
My only regret, not being able to shoot still earlier when the sun was still shining and a timelapse at night as well. And the missing frame in the third timelapse that I still haven't figured out where it disappeared.
In the meanwhile, enjoy this 3 timelapse montage, each with approximately 240 images shooting the Cloud gate at 3 different angles. Music set to the As if you have never been away by Ulrich Schnauss in Far Away Trains Passing by.

The shadow plays an important role even in a timelapse video. This was a short test to see the effect.

Last month I began experimenting with time lapse photography after seeing Simon Christen's Unseen Sea.
I'm new at this time lapse stuff. I made a lot of mistakes that night, and learned a lot of interesting things. Among them, don't get lazy and take one frame every ten seconds. That's not enough. A good rule of thumb is to shoot continuously. Even if it's one frame every few seconds. If it turns out you've taken too many shots, you can always delete some later in order to speed up the video playback speed.
