Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.

 

Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.

 

In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.

 

This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.

 

This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

The DeLorean Time Machine

Project ‘Time Machine’ is about the development and prototyping of a dramatic discovery experience in Augmented Reality.

The prototype of ‘Tijdmachine’ will be a telescope with AR software, which is placed on a public square in Rotterdam. The user looks through the telescope and travels to a certain time. Most important are the characters the user encounters from that period.

We’re starting to create a time machine for our next art project at ‘Pataphysical Studios. Guests will be invited to step into our magic portal and travel to different time periods, which we will recreate as short scenes, through a variety of audio, video, maker art and mixed media. We’re now brainstorming and prototyping ideas for this interactive art project, which we plan to build collectively in coming years. If you liked the ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine, we hope this new piece will transport you even further. Fire in the hole!

For this one, you all can blame Jeremy and his tendency to make bad puns right before I fall asleep so that I spend copious dream-hours thinking about how to illustrate them.

Our friends Geo Monley and Brandon Onstott are making a porthole for the Time Machine we’re creating at Pataphysical Studios, with a world-class team of of artists, makers, engineers and multimedia innovators. This interactive art exhibit will invite you to travel through time and meet characters from the past, present and future.

 

Geo and Brandon are building this porthole at Tam Makers, our community makerspace, where they can use a wider range of tools, from Autocad 360 to laser cutter or CNC rounter. The design is similar to the iris used in cameras, which let you open and close a circular very elegantly.

 

Our guests will be invited to open these portholes as part of their time travel experience, to interact with characters and articfacts from different times.

 

It’s great to see different teams come together to design and build the various parts of our Time Machine. That’s what collective art projects are all about!

When night meets the morning sun Another busy day had just began as dawn is breaking somewhere in China. This scene has been repeated for thousand of years in the course of history. As I was taking the photo, I felt myself transported back in time 2000 years ago, standing right here at the same place watching over the ancient town with men on horse back galloping by.

Inventing a time machine that could bring us back in time has being my dream since childhood days. I think not much hope in building one this lifetime (not born smart enough and rich enough)

Perhaps my dream would come true in my next life....perhaps.....perhaps.....perhaps....
