We are creating a Time Machine at ‘Pataphysical Studios, our art collective in Mill Valley, where surrealism meets the maker culture.
Our Time Machine invites you to travel through time and meet characters from the past, present and future. We hope to engage our guests in a fun interactive experience that combines art, multimedia, theater and technology.
Take a sneak peek at the making of our Time Machine in fall 2019. When completed, our Time Machine will take you on wild rides across time, from the Big Bang to Trumpocalypse and beyond.

Vive la machine à explorer le temps!
Our friends Geo Monley and Brandon Onstott are making a porthole for the Time Machine we’re creating at Pataphysical Studios, with a world-class team of of artists, makers, engineers and multimedia innovators. This interactive art exhibit will invite you to travel through time and meet characters from the past, present and future.
Geo and Brandon are building this porthole at Tam Makers, our community makerspace, where they can use a wider range of tools, from Autocad 360 to laser cutter or CNC rounter. The design is similar to the iris used in cameras, which let you open and close a circular very elegantly.
Our guests will be invited to open these portholes as part of their time travel experience, to interact with characters and articfacts from different times.
It’s great to see different teams come together to design and build the various parts of our Time Machine. That’s what collective art projects are all about!

chrsitmas? i think mom made me that nightgown as a gift..... thank you mom for all the clothes you sewed for me. i know i never liked clothes as gifts (what kid does?), but as an adult, i appreciate more than i can say!
A productive afternoon at Pataphysical Studios, brainstorming with the first model of the Time Machine, then getting the Pataphysical Slot Machine back in shape for its next exhibit. A good time was had by all.
Making art with friends is why we keep coming back to the Pataphysical Studios every week. Our conversations are always interesting and the birds all around us treat us with melodious tweets.

Braunschweig (DE).
Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.
Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.
In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.
This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.
This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

Tiffany, Brigitte, Brigitte's tape recorder, and I celebrated New Year's Eve together. The transcribed soiree appeared in the pages of The Cheese Stands Alone, the vaguely Mystery-Science-Theater-3000-themed zine Brigitte and I collaborated on (with Brigitte providing most of the content and all of the clip art and bullying). By the time we made it to issue five, we were obviously moving away from the MST3K premise; Brigitte would later go on to write her own solo zines and I would spend the next few years weeping (for reasons wholly unrelated to zine-making).
But anyway, on NYE, we sat in my bedroom and warded off attacks from Jake, who was a toddler then and inexplicably convinced that Tiffany's name was Mike Mills. (Like the bassist from R.E.M., not the other one.) And speaking of names: Edmund and Lemming were our noms de zine. Cute, huh?
Restoring over the network from a usb drive is slooooow. I really need to get that external drive formatted with hfs and connect it directly to my mac via FW800.
The Doctor: Let's NOT!
Martha: But we're on an island surrounded by a beautiful lake, why not?
The Doctor: Because we're on the planet Marinus and that lake happens to be filled with acid, not water!
Martha: Oh. Party pooper!
