Our Maker Art class created a Time Machine this year, inviting you to travel through time from the age of dinosaurs to the 50th century.
Our 4th and 5th graders at the Lycée Français designed their own scenes from the past, present or future, and brought them to life with motion, lights and sounds. They also worked in teams to build interactive features like illuminated keypads, spinners and doors, using the popular Arduino platform.
In our after-school classes, we combine art, technology and storytelling to help children create their own magical worlds. They learn to design their ideas, build them with a variety of tools, animate them with electronics and tell their stories. This unique multimedia course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills -- and builds their confidence that they can help change the world.
This year, we had a really good group of 9 students, ages 8 to 11 -- many of whom had taken our Maker Art classes before. They were very creative and engaged, and did a great job presenting their work at the Lycée Français -- and at Marinovators at the College of Marin on April 22.
This Maker Art class was taught by Fabrice Florin and Edward Janne at the Lycée Français in Sausalito in winter 2017. We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

Our friends Geo Monley and Brandon Onstott are making a porthole for the Time Machine we’re creating at Pataphysical Studios, with a world-class team of of artists, makers, engineers and multimedia innovators. This interactive art exhibit will invite you to travel through time and meet characters from the past, present and future.
Geo and Brandon are building this porthole at Tam Makers, our community makerspace, where they can use a wider range of tools, from Autocad 360 to laser cutter or CNC rounter. The design is similar to the iris used in cameras, which let you open and close a circular very elegantly.
Our guests will be invited to open these portholes as part of their time travel experience, to interact with characters and articfacts from different times.
It’s great to see different teams come together to design and build the various parts of our Time Machine. That’s what collective art projects are all about!

A productive afternoon at Pataphysical Studios, brainstorming with the first model of the Time Machine, then getting the Pataphysical Slot Machine back in shape for its next exhibit. A good time was had by all.

We met every week for 12 workshops of 90 minutes each, Thursdays at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017. Our teachers are part of the Tam Makers learning community and we prepared materials for this project in our state-of-the-art makerspace at the nearby Tam High School.

Time flows and time drops out of our hands. Sometimes it is like a bird in the sky - untouchable, almost invisible and clean like clear water we drink. There are no Time Machines that could bring us back to childhood. Just our memories and imagination..
This gorgeous, elegant and sophisticated necklace is made using mix of techniques and black and grey beads, Japanese Miyuki glass cubs, obsidian chips and even vintage button.
Length of necklace measures 50cm (approx. 20 inch), center of the pendant is 8 by 11 cm (3*4,5 inch).

Our friends Geo Monley and Brandon Onstott are making a porthole for the Time Machine we’re creating at Pataphysical Studios, with a world-class team of of artists, makers, engineers and multimedia innovators. This interactive art exhibit will invite you to travel through time and meet characters from the past, present and future.
Geo and Brandon are building this porthole at Tam Makers, our community makerspace, where they can use a wider range of tools, from Autocad 360 to laser cutter or CNC rounter. The design is similar to the iris used in cameras, which let you open and close a circular very elegantly.
Our guests will be invited to open these portholes as part of their time travel experience, to interact with characters and articfacts from different times.
It’s great to see different teams come together to design and build the various parts of our Time Machine. That’s what collective art projects are all about!

A while back, I blubbed about an issue in Time Machine, where I kept getting errors when backing up. www.flickr.com/photos/hicksdesign/2108650772/
After trying all sorts of fixes - reformatting the drive partitions as GUID, deleting preferences, repairing the disk and so on - the fix, in the end, was quite simple.
By default (from fresh set of preferences), the boot drive was listed in the drives to exclude. Odd behavior, but removing it from the list means the backup now works! Perhaps having a SuperDuper cloned drive confused the poor thing?
