Pataphysical Studios is building a Time Machine for our next art exhibit. On a balmy spring afternoon, Drs. Rindbrain and Fabio created more visualizations of what the Time Machine might look like.

We sketched out several ideas for the inside and outside walls, for discussion purposes. On each side of the main screen, we designed round portholes through which we could interact with our guests -- or show scenes from the past or future. Behind each porthole would be a magic box that could feature artifacts from distant times -- or the head of a historical figure, projected onto a ‘life cast’. The rest of the inside walls would be used for other interactive artworks such as the Crazy Clock, which sings quotes about time when you press its big green button.

On the outside walls, we sketched out a Face Box that you could stick your head in to get your picture taken. It would include an Infinity Mirror made of LED strips cycling through the colors of the rainbow, with a camera at the end of this light tunnel. We also sketched out where time wonderboxes could be placed on the side walls, proposing that the left wall focus on the past and the right wall on the future. A graphic timeline across both walls could support that idea.

It was a productive meeting and we look forward to presenting these ideas to our fellow doctors at the next Time Machine meeting.

Steampunk, before it became the full-blown sub-culture it is today, started out as a science-fiction sub-genre in the 1970s. Its fundamental inspirations go all the way back to 19th century Victorian writers, such as Jules Verne (author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and H.G. Wells (author of The Time Machine).

Pataphysical Studios is creating a Time Machine. Here are our first composite sketches of what this art exhibit might look like. In a previous team brainstorm, we invited team members to draw their own ideas of Time Machine’s front and side views, outside and inside. In this composite drawing, Dr. Fabio tried to combine as many different sketches as possible. To visualize some of our shared ideas for this new art project, he superimposed them in layers against a 3D model of the current frame, using Google Slides. A collective vision is now emerging from all this, which will inspire our next steps for the Time Machine. Vive la ‘patpahysique!

I just got a new Soul and I love the car. Decided to have a bit of fun with the "customization" aspect of the car.

Well, how else do you think I am able to take all those photos of years ago?

The Pataphysical Time Machine has awakened!

In May 2021, the good doctors at Pataphysical Studios started gathering again in our enchanted art garden, to resume work on our collective art project.

We didn’t waste any time getting the Time Machine up and running again:

• Dr. Fabio brought Dr. Albert Einstein back to life as an illuminated talking head in his Dreamer artwork, along with Greta Thunberg;

• Dr. Geo and David installed a new porthole, whose motorized iris will open and close to reveal these illustrious characters;

• Dr. Rindbrain added a magical spinning hand to our exhibit, while painting new shoes and animals for friends and family;

• Dr. Really set up a sub-anal sound system under our cosmic bench, aptly decorated by Dr. Skidz.

• Dr. Heatshrink put the finishing touches on his illuminated jewelry box;

• Dr. Firebird served us refreshments and prepared to paint her Rosebud panel;

• Dr. Truly came all the way from the far reaches of the North Bay to say hi and hand out lovely patches;

• Many other doctors came to shoot the breeze in the front deck: Drs. Judy, Tout d’Suite and Zboon, to name but a few.

We hope you enjoy these videos and photos of our first time back together in over a year, due to the pandemic. It’s been such a pleasure to reconnect with our old art pals and celebrate the return of the spring together. Let's hope this is only the start of a new Post-Pandemic Age of Enlightenment. Vive la machine à explorer le temps!
