stay always connected on flickr all over the world :D

After building several versions of this iconic film vehicle, I finally landed on something I'm a bit more satisfied with. I hope you like it.

Each Saturday, the good doctors make art together at Pataphysical Studios.

Here are this week’s notable art projects:

• Drs. Really and Rindbrain created a banner for an art protest, ‘Traffic Jam Valley’

• Dr. Rindbrain developed ‘Magical Thought’, an illuminated wonderbox

• Dr. Fiske dropped by to record an impromptu video of Pataphysical Studios

• Dr. Figurine showed off the head and body of her Owl for our Dada Exhibit

• Dr. Fabio presented composite sketches for the Time Machine, based on team designs

• Dr. Truly demonstrated how to share videos on social media while lying flat on your back

• Dr. Canard discussed her Dada Mobile with Dr. Zboon, who then created a greeting card

• Dr. Fabio showed off a new circle design for the Crazy Clock, discarding its old frame

We then went on a nice walk to Oakwood Valley. On the way, Dr. Rindbrain re-discovered himself and nearby dimensions on a neighborhood pole. We then played in a secret grove of bay trees, deep in the heart of the valley.

About Pataphysical Studios: pataphysics.us/

Pataphysical Studios, our art collective, is starting to build a Time Machine for our next exhibit. This week, our maker friend Geo Monley joined us to consult on our construction plans. While he was at it, he also led our motley crew to raise the structure up from the floor and build a doorway into our inner sanctum. It was a productive team effort and we got a lot done, thanks to Dr. Geo’s wonderful guidance.

This week, we also worked on other art projects:

• Dr. Canard started a new assemblage project with assorted art objects and voodoo dolls

• Drs. Fabio and Canard finalized the design of their Crazy Clock and brainstormed time quotes

• Dr. Figurine finished soldering her theramine and showed off her David Bowie life cast

• Dr. Rindbrain provided sundry tools and supplies to support all this fine work

• Dr. Really worked on our proposal for the Dada exhibit

• Dr. Heatshrink did extensive documentation on this photo set

Next, Drs. Fabio and Rindbrain will prepare more detailed sketches of the Time Machine, to reflect the new reality in the studio. These visualizations will inform our next group discussion, so that team members can get a better understanding of where their work might fit in the exhibit.

Rush, Time Machine tour Glasgow 14-5-2011

My 2009 Ducati 848 time Machine. If you have ever seen the Movie 'The Final Count Down" you will "Get" this photo.

The Dreamer’s illuminated sculpture channels free spirits like physicist Albert Einstein and activist Greta Thunberg, speaking to us from across space and time. Their faces appear on an translucent mask through the magic of rear-projected video, which brings them to life as if they were right in front of you.

The Dreamer’s face keeps transforming, showing fleeting characters and images, evoking memories and ideas that can move us and transform our lives. My goal for this art project is to make us more aware of how characters like these can influence us and change the way we perceive the world around us.

This photo set documents the making of the Dreamer in winter 2019, when I built a frame, a projection stand, backdrop and carousel for the Dreamer, with the gracious help of Geo Monley and friends at Tam Makers. The Dreamer’s flat face started as a paper clay sculpture mold, vacuum-formed over a plastic cast, upon which we rear-project videos of talking heads from found footage, edited and transformed to fit in the shape of our masks.

The effect is surreal, and this art piece seems to be breaking new ground. There are so many ways it can go now. Next steps include adding some interactivity, so you can query the spirits or spark different moods -- as well as filming and acquiring more talking head videos. I would like to present The Dreamer as a stand-alone kiosk in art exhibits, as well as in the Time Machine we are building at Pataphysical Studios.

Learn about the Time Machine: pataphysics.us/time-machine/

This year, we are creating a Time Machine in our Maker Art class at the Lycée Français, with a great team of of 9 students. In our after-school workshop, we combine arts and technology to bring their ideas to life, with lights, sounds and motion.

Each student will create their own scene from the past, present or future. They will then work in teams to build the Time Machine, which will showcase their work -- as well as program lights, motion and sound with Arduino boards.

This class is for students in grades 4 and 5 (ages 8 to 10). Besides learning how to make things with electronics, this course helps them develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills. We meet in Sausalito for an hour and a half each week, every Thursday at 3:30pm, from January 5 to March 30, 2017.

Our teacher associate this year is Edward Janne, a talented maker, designer and engineer from our Tam Makers community. We’re very lucky to have his technical expertise for this new adventure. :)

We look forward to another great Maker Art course this year. We have a really good group of students, who are exceptionally creative and engaged. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

This year, we are creating a Time Machine at Pataphysical Studios, with a world-class team of of artists, makers, engineers and multimedia innovators.

This interactive art exhibit invites you to travel through time and meet characters from the past, present and future. We hope to intrigue, enchant and engage visitors in a playful experience that combines interactive art, multimedia theater and technology.

These first designs illustrate the experience we are creating. We will invite our guests to go through a short interactive ritual during their visit: walk around the exhibit, step into a magic portal, pick a time to visit, travel to that time, meet its characters and return back to the present.

This is the most complex art project we have ever created together. We are now working in teams to design and build different parts of the Time Machine, making interactive art with lights, sound and motion powered by Arduino and Raspberry Pi -- as well as producing short videos of the different times you will travel to.

We're all excited about our next collective art project and can’t wait to see what it will look like in a year!

The Pataphysical Time Machine has awakened!

In May 2021, the good doctors at Pataphysical Studios started gathering again in our enchanted art garden, to resume work on our collective art project.

We didn’t waste any time getting the Time Machine up and running again:

• Dr. Fabio brought Dr. Albert Einstein back to life as an illuminated talking head in his Dreamer artwork, along with Greta Thunberg;

• Dr. Geo and David installed a new porthole, whose motorized iris will open and close to reveal these illustrious characters;

• Dr. Rindbrain added a magical spinning hand to our exhibit, while painting new shoes and animals for friends and family;

• Dr. Really set up a sub-anal sound system under our cosmic bench, aptly decorated by Dr. Skidz.

• Dr. Heatshrink put the finishing touches on his illuminated jewelry box;

• Dr. Firebird served us refreshments and prepared to paint her Rosebud panel;

• Dr. Truly came all the way from the far reaches of the North Bay to say hi and hand out lovely patches;

• Many other doctors came to shoot the breeze in the front deck: Drs. Judy, Tout d’Suite and Zboon, to name but a few.

We hope you enjoy these videos and photos of our first time back together in over a year, due to the pandemic. It’s been such a pleasure to reconnect with our old art pals and celebrate the return of the spring together. Let's hope this is only the start of a new Post-Pandemic Age of Enlightenment. Vive la machine à explorer le temps!

ODC = Invisible

Funny how I struggled with what to do for this challenge and then..DUH. My husband is a professional magician and he invented this Anubis 1810 Time Machine which is part of his Steampunk Magic Show. He makes thing appear....because they come from another dimension they are invisible before they appear:)

So yesterday was the day, according to "back to the future' that "Marty McFly" was suppose to arrive....Could you imagine the chaos if we could travel in time?

Not completed. Waiting for a few more characters to appear. Waiting on the weather. Waiting for the wine. Waiting for the time machine...

Dr. Figurine and I would like to bring characters to life by projecting videos of human faces onto her ‘life casts’ of David Bowie, Sean Connery and John Cleese.

To experiment more with this idea, we did a second test in my studio, to see if we could fit this exhibit in a small space. We used a video of my interviews with Dr. Canard and Dr. Zboon, placing our projector right below the David Bowie life cast, pointing at a mirror two feet away to reflect the light onto the cast.

The results of this second test were encouraging, as you can see in these photos:

www.flickr.com/photos/fabola/27904764975/in/album-7215766...

We would like to apply this projection mapping technique to our Time Machine art project. One idea is to project the faces of historical figures onto these ‘life casts.’

The good doctors gathered at Pataphysical Studios on a sunny Saturday to discuss their mad pursuit of time chasing devices.

Drs. Rindbrain and Fabio met with Dr. Geo to review our new sketches for the Time Machine -- and to start designing a roof and other features for our next pataphysical invention. Dr. Rindbrain showed another illuminated box using printed cloth, and Dr. Canard performed parts of the famous nose tirade in Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac. Drs. Zboon and Fabio concocted more imaginary solutions for the Magic Theater adventure.

All was well in the best possible worlds, at that time and place. Other dimensions may vary.
