These things started munching on my basil, so I thought I'd get some close-up action shots.
I had to move the camera around a bit, and regrettably I didn't lock the focus down - but overall, not bad for an ad-hoc set-up.
Sound effects compliments of an old childhood favourite. Also in HD on Vimeo.
Part of the view from work, showing day passing to evening, and through overnight to the next morning. (Roughly 4 PM to 9 AM.)
Interestingly, some of the reflection from the office is caught as the sun goes down and the lights stay on inside. (They switch on and off once or twice, too.) The clocks on the far wall are seen moving in reverse as time passes, and COIT tower's lights turn off for a bit during the night.
I cut some of the evening out in order to get the morning light within 90 seconds.
Shot from the view at work, at a rather unusual angle on a foggy day. Canon SX100IS with CHDK intervalometer script, 1 frame every 15 seconds, made into a 30fps movie.
The clouds were moving very quickly, even real-time video at high speed would look cool in this case. They're too fast here, but the lighting is neat.
If you have a Canon and want to try this sort of thing, check out the CHDK project. It's pretty awesome.
I had to drive to Coventry for a meeting this morning, so with the aid of a large blob of Blu-Tack, I mounted my Flip onto the dashboard and recorded the journey. At the time, the thirty one mile journey took fifty one minutes. Here it is condensed into ninety seconds - that's 1240 miles per hour.
The brief pause near the end is me having realised that I had taken the wrong turning, pulling over and looking at the map, and then doubling back.
This was taken by me while visiting family in Woodstock, NY. There were stroms all day and night long! I had a really hard time trying to capture the lightning with my D80 so i flipped on the sony camcorder. It only took 30 seconds to get this vid. I would say that small bolt you see at the end was about 5 feet from my FEET!! The big bolt was behind the trees a couple of hundred feet away and it took the power out for close to four hours.
I love time lapses so much.
I'm not really into the clouds blowing by or flowers blooming so much as I like the little slice of life videos that pop up on Flickr. Like guys shaving their face, or the evening commute, or mowing the lawn.
[To choose the music, I literally put iTunes on random and just used the first song that played. Having used that method, this fits ridiculously well. It's Love on a Real Train - Tangerine Dream from the Spank Rock FabricLive 33 mix.]
Around 2 a.m. one morning I heard something in my garden and went out to investigate. He's so ugly he's cute.

Music by "Minstrel Spirit - at the Castle Gate"
This time lapse video was done like this:
Ricoh Capilo R5 on a Tripod, 1 image taken automatically every 10 seconds.
This video was done out of 1068 individual still shots, played back @ 12 frames per second.
So the time frame you acutally see during the 89 seconds playback equals 3 hours of real time
Hate it or love it but today I uploaded my first video to Flickr.

This time lapse video was done like this:
Ricoh Capilo R5 on a Tripod, 1 image taken automatically every 10 seconds.
This video was done out of 876 individual still shots, played back @ 12 frames per second.
So the time frame you acutally see during the 73 seconds playback equals approximately 2,5 hours of real time
This is one of my favorite spots in Chicago, and perhaps anywhere. It's a little urban oasis where I sometimes escape to, especially at lunchtime. I shot this video (and a lot of stills) one late summer afternoon after work when the sprinklers had been turned on. The water and the strong, directional light and shadows captivated me.
I'm back from my lovely vacation in Wilmington, NC. I had a great time, and took thousands of pics. They will show up here slowly but surely. In the meantime, enjoy this short video of the Cape Fear River.
When we went to Lambert's Cafe' (home of the throwed rolls) this time I caught the same roll thrower in action. Here he is the time before.

Small first experiment with time-lapse photography.
I took 360 shots over 2 hours in a nice town called Laarne, on the same little road as the previous photo.

Sorry it's a bit shaky - part of that is due to the fact that the bleacher type stands where I was sitting were vibrating from fellow concert-goers dancing, etc....but I really love this song, so had to capture a bit of it on video.
Faces come and go…inner color landscapes shift and shimmer as the camera looks deeply into the lit up crystal sphere at night. Soft music by Iasos plays in the background. Video by Walker Dukes.
Soft music from Crystal Love by Iasos plays in the background as the lighted revolving sphere changes colors. Video by Walker Dukes.
A timelapse experiment, using a webcam pointed out my window, a capture-program, some python-scripting and mencoder.
The jerky colours are the camera's automatic colour levelling that tries to catch up with the daylight (or lack thereof).
I had a bit of a play with my original "straight from the camera" Flash-Boom! video.
I trimmed it to make it shorter... then I took the bit where the lightning actually hits and slowed that down, so you can see it better...
finally, I added sound effects of rain & thunder to make it sound more like how I heard it (but the camera didn't capture).
This is the little bit of video that Evelia took with our point and shoot along with a few photos. Sorry about the sideways video, she used it as a point and shoot (still) camera and probably had no idea that rotating video just doesn't work out as well as in still photos. :D
We also paid for the video they shoot for you there thinking they would have the best angles and everything. It was a big waste of money since they have one cheap camera (looks like a security camera) at the control desk at about thigh/hip level and it doesn't move at all. You completely miss out on all the action once it gets above that area, which totally SUCKED.
Song is obviously by The Ramones, Blitzgrieg Bop.
This is the first time I took photos with the specific intent of putting them into a film. It's small, and cheesy, but I'm happy with it.
For those of you that don't know, Crossprocessing is the ... uh.. process, by which you get those weird, off, almost pastel-y colors in photos. Hence the title.
Strobist: Shot with a single strobe held high to avoid big shadows on the back "wall" though I did want some to create depth and separation from the background. Two finger puppets from IKEA. Reflector to the right to fill some shadows.
Music: Rollercoaster by Kimya Dawson
