I took the boys to walk to the river (James River, Newport News, Virginia) this afternoon, it was sunny and cool, and very windy (Jimmy Dean, link and Frank love it on the waterfront).
A short clip from my summer concerts by the lake in Newport News- it is not even winter yet and I already miss the summer.
A lot is going on in this short video. Jimmy Dean wanted to play. Link wanted to stay on the porch. Frank wanted to stay next to Link (he loves Link). Jimmy Dean finally gave up and pushed in between the other two to separate them. Frank quickly corrected the situation and got back to Link's side quickly.
Frank likes to slowly move up on my shoulder getting closer and closer to my face, then tries to lick me on the mout. I tried blowing in his face to deter him but that just got him to take a few punches at my mouth with his paw.
Jimmy Dean was enjoying all the dropping leaves and the comfortable temperatures and was taking his time coming in - I was home for lunch and in a bit of a hurry.

*Probably best viewed at original (very small) ratio with the sound off. If you leave the sound on you'll be treated to a howling wind, heavy breathing and, right at the end as a special treat, the obligatory loud and opinionated American tourist. Bless 'em.
Frank and Jimmy Dean slain by a heater - they love that heating dish. Link was down with them but he climbed back on the couch (comfort over heat).
I only included this video because it gives a good (but brief) side profile of Jimmy Dean walking and really shows off how short his front legs are and how big his chest is - he has only about an inch clearance between his chest and the ground. But he has nice long back legs. And Jimmy Dean has a slick, shiny jet black coat. Link was testing me - he wanted me to open the door for him, he usually use the doggy door; Jimmy Dean can onot clear it, he drags his chest on the edge - it must hurt - he only did it once and never again.
While Jimmy Dean just watched, Link and Frank were play fighting. What made me smile is what Frank does when i talk to him.
A friend on Facebook asked for another video of the boys, so I made this one last night. I played an old video of Frank crying and howling when he got separated for Link and Jimmy Dean. I know the sound of any one of them in distress will get all of the howling - I got more howling and crying than I had imagined I would get.
For me I made dirt rice. For theboys i made boiled, then minced chicken livers, gizzards and hearts. Today is Jimmy Dean's 6th Birthday so they all got to share a special meal.
Wile I was cooking their dinner (special dinner for Jimmy Dean's Birthday) I gave the boys a slice of provolone cheese.

Here are some moving pictures from my "trek" in Florida. My intention was to present to you a peaceful tour around the yard that early evening. And you know, with that brightly colored dewlap poking out of the brown lizard intermittently, it's really hard to appreciate with only a single image.
At one point, you'll see the lizard doing push ups. First time I saw this, I had no idea what he was doing. At Wikipedia.com, it explains: "Male brown anoles tend to do "push-ups" and bob their heads when they're angry, when they're ready to fight, and when they're trying to attract mates." So there you go. Everyone who learned something today, raise your hand. :)
BTW, all this was hand-held with the large 70-300mm VR lens. I didn't want to be encumbered with a tri/monopod (actually, I didn't have enough sense to take it on my trek) so, sorry if the video is a bit shaky.... ;)
Oh, and hey, right before the end of the video, watch as the ant bites his toe! :D

P.S. I just noticed that when I view this in the lightbox, I get it at 1280x720 resolution! Not stretched to full screen (which for me is larger than 1280x720) or shrunk down to 640x360 (more or less) as you see on this page. I think that's pretty cool (who else does that?). Way to go Flickr!
Each and Every Halloween Beggar was greeted by Jimmy Dean, Link and Frank - some kids would back off, others would run up and pet them hand hug and kiss them. All had fun.
Frank making his rounds to give us all a chance to pay our respects to him. From me he goes to Link. After Link, not filmed, he hunted down Jimmy Dean and stretched out in front of him.
Jimmy Dean loves his toy elephant - he will play with it by himself, making a strange noise the entire time and wagging that tail non-stop.
I had recorded just a few seconds of the boys howling when I had put them in their pen. I played it back and Frank just could not help but join in again. And yes that is me making fun of him in the first second - what can i say, I have a mean streak,
When Jimmy Dean, Link and Frank came out back this morning the found a neighbors kitten - the cat is raised with a lab and two pit-rottie mixes but it did not know what to make of 3 dachshunds.
You can hear the cobbles rolling over each other in the waves around 20-25 seconds in. What a beautiful place!
A bit of VFF running to check my form. This is from 6 October 2010. I set up an old Flip HD camera on a small tripod, then I used iMovie to edit the video in less than 20 minutes. The slow motion effects are at 10% normal speed. It's impossible to do true slo-mo with a Flip camera - it doesn't take enough frames per second.

Sound of Nature: millions of years ago on Taiwan island.
Despite lecturer's voices in the background, I could hear the sound of (supposedly) natural inhabitants from million years ago in Taiwan. Very cool!
This tarantula was one of many that crossed my path during my Sept. 2010 visit to Zion National Park. I learned that it was mating season and male tarantulas were busy looking for partners.
The rain is over and the day is cool, the boys were happy outside - Frank and Jimmy Dean found something worthy of a good roll - Link was mildly interested, but didn't go for a roll. And yes, my voice did crack!
Frank, Jimmy Dean and Link all have different attitudes towards flooding and puddles. Frank loves them. Jimmy Dean will walk in shallow puddles. Link will venture out only if he has to try to find a place to go potty.
Every once in a while Frank feels he has to flex his muscle and try to back-down Jimmy Dean - He was doing his best to keep Jimmy Dean from hopping on the couch to sit next to me. No one gets hurt, just a bit of noise and teeth flashing.
This little clip was the start of a 5 minute barking-fest: Link and Frank were barking at Dottie Ann and Bela (pitt-rottie-lab mixes). I was trying to get all three dogs out to go to the bathroom so I could head to class – I was running late and I was tired of telling these two to be quiet and telling JD to get in the house.

This guy who owns this house is a thorn in my side - every time I walk by his house he yells at me to make sure I have bags to pickup after my dogs (the never have gone potty in his yard). He put up this strange fence that really does not match and he put fake, bright yellow shutters on two windows that are way to small for the windows.
