I began smoking cigarettes at the age of 13. I'd heard my mother and my father (once upon a time), grandparents, aunts and uncles all claim they smoked because it relieved their stress. I remember seeing a smoldering cigarette on my grandmothers kitchen table, another in the living room and she's out back doing something, cigarette dangling from her lips. I even remember my grandfather telling me that if someone would hold the cigarette while he slept, he'd smoke then too. He was pretty hardcore though... the last of the true Marlboro men, as I liked to call him when he wasnt around to hear. A hardworking cowboy, through and through. He also worked at the cement plant, which I cant imagine helped his lungs any.
I quit for almost a year, right before I was to have surgery (that never came about). I felt free for the first time in 22 years. I didnt worry about my breath or my hands and clothes smelling, I didnt worry about that itch that crawls into your mind while you're trying to work... or that sickening feeling you get when a friend that doesnt smoke asks you to go on a long trip and you know you cant smoke for hours at a time. I was free of all the excuses I'd given over the years to go outside and quickly suck down the drug. Free of feeling guilty.. free of the death clock that I heard ticking in the back of my head.
I became a slave once again a while back. Probably 400 packs ago (give or take). The surgery that was canceled last year is looming close once again... I'm thinking about quitting. I bought a carton a few days ago, I have four packs left in it... and I'm starting to twitch a little bit with the idea of truly giving up a lifelong addiction. My children hate it, everyone I know doesnt smoke... its a messy, filthy habit and I pray for the strength to once again part ways with my imaginary friend the cigarette.

This is a cat-raven attacking a nerdy jellyfish. I made this for an awesome new clothing line called Time To Panic. They were awesome to work with. Greg Abbott also did a lot of work for them so you should check them out!

One of two broods of ducklings i have been photographing, after a good feed of bread the smaller ducklings of the lot promptly went and had a siesta, this one was left out in the cold though, as not enough room for all to get under mums wing.

A co-worker of mine, Marc, who I had driver training with this past week told me about an upcoming track day at Barber (my new second home on the weekends, apparently). So i went down there for a couple hours today to shoot the bikes and see if i could find him in his RC. Bingo. I grabbed this shot as he was finishing up his session with intermediate group. Pretty great day for some track time. In other news, i may have access to a Hasselblad in the near future... networking rocks.
Reveal time! It's my favourite part of the process as you genuinely don't know how it's all going to turn out. Will it be a garbled mess or have I achieved the perfect glitch in the matrix? Let's find out...
Cheers

UAL flight UAL882 from Tokyo's Narita Int'l Airport to Chicago's O'hare Int'l Airport flown on a Boeing 777-200ER (N218UA) This aircraft left Toyko at 4:30PM local time, and landed at O'hare at 1:54PM local time, SAME day. The miracle of the International Dateline, and modern jet travel, where you can land before you took off!!! Many years ago I flew this route, and can attest to the weirdness of having your whole flight time to live over again. Of course going Westbound across the dateline, you lose a day
Quilcene, WA - This pathway led to our cabin, an awesome little hideaway tucked in the woods. The cabin was surrounded by national park land so we had no neighbors, at least no human neighbors.
There were some trails I walked under the moonlight and all I could hear were soft footsteps and the slow relaxed breathing of my soul. The last night at the cabin I made a small fire lit a cigar, had a beer, put my feet up and watched the smoke linger into the stars. Out here, time doesn’t really does not matter. The thought of cities, airports and checkout lines become an ever fainting echo that is drowned out by the forest breeze and a slow rolling river.
Part of the sPHENIX detector, the Time Projection Chamber allows nuclear physicists to measure the momentum of charged particles streaming from collisions produced in Brookhaven Lab's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). sPHENIX is a radical makeover of the PHENIX experiment, one of the original detectors designed to collect data at RHIC. It includes many new components that significantly enhance scientists’ ability to learn about quark-gluon plasma (QGP), an exotic form of nuclear matter created in RHIC’s energetic particle smashups.
