I (re)created this pattern in Blender (a free 3D modelling, rendering, animation, and game engine program from www.blender.org). I'm still new to Blender so it took several hours for me to figure out how to do it right. That, and I did it the hard way while learning Blender was not the best choice for creating patterns like this. Afterwards, someone told me about Inkscape ( www.inkscape.org ).
Anyway, I was inspired by these photos of a "Ramadan" Arabic pattern taken by Dennis M. Andrews de paul:
Needless to say, it took a while to figure out how to reproduce this pattern from the photos, let alone in Blender by creating vertices and lines. Then I subdivided a few times and applied a "halo" material.
Also, I plan on releasing a lantern model made (almost finished) in Blender and using this pattern for the glass.

I found this place that calls itself a "clay studio" on the bayfront of Corpus Christi, Texas. It looks interesting, and we will try to visit longer later on. It was rather jammed when we stopped, so we didn't go in.
The space invader is made up of large tiles and tucked down a side street near the British Museum and Central Saint Giles. It's not part of any sort of art installation, and the rest of the walls in the area are clear, so I'm not sure how it ended up here.
Fascinating porcelain roofing tiles in Rui Barbosa's mansion. Isn't it another treasure? :¬)
"Maria Augusta" was the name of Rui Barbosa's wife. Them, he gave her name to the mansion.
Beautiful homenage, huh? ;¬]

In the mother-in-law suite's bathroom we ordered a curved-glass shower and had it installed with a custom tile enclosure
Well I finally finished the shower! I started this project on February 27th and finished it yesterday April 10th, now you can see why I'd make no money doing renos I'm way too slow :-) No, it's just that other stuff came up in the midst of doing the tiling and so it got put on hold a number of times. So I learned lots doing this shower and I'd say the physical work side of it was at the bottom of the list.
Here's what I learned:
Sometimes a good cry is necessary when I feel overwhelmed…as long as I don't stay there but eventually dry my tears and tackle the job one step at a time.
"Can you please help me," doesn't mean I'm incapable but that I just need HELP. And for me it's actually a good thing seeing as it's so hard for me to ask for help but I had to do it a number of times…swallow that pride and ask!
I can do things I didn't think I could do.
When it takes about six weeks to complete a shower reno I'd say lots of patience has been learned.
Having to do a tile cut umpteen times because I kept getting it wrong was another way I learned patience. I guess you could say the bonus was I got some exercise going up and down that stairs to go outside and cut the tile. May as well look at the bright side…though I don't think I was thinking about exercise more like if I have to go up and down this stairs one more time…..better learn some more patience.
And then gluing that same tile to the ceiling only to have it fall off and shatter when I took the brace off is the ultimate in learning patience…back to the drawing board with that cut, though by this time it only required a couple cuts to get it right…I guess I'd learned enough patience and this was just a test to see if I'd really learned any.
I can be stubborn and hard to work with when things aren't going right, I can be hard to teach…but I have a patient husband who walks me through it.
I can be unkind when things aren't working out and had to apologize a number of times…character development…I'm not there yet ;-)
While getting started and laying those first rows of tiles I wasn't the happiest camper to be around but by the last three rows I was singin in that shower!
Standing and looking at the complete project puts a smile on my face and makes me proud in a good way. For me to have completed something from start to finish is a good thing and it's rewarding looking at the finished product. I'm a starter but not always a finisher :-)
I can tile a shower!
As far as the character development side of this project because I am a work in progress some verses that I love are:
Philippians 1: 6 "…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4: 13 "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
Everyday these verses are worked out in my life through whatever comes my way.
Would work like a regular 1x1 tile, but would fit over a 1x1 round brick and act as a cap. I guess it would be better with a grove along the bottom, but my art skillz aren't that good.
We went to see the Art of Islam exhibit at the Smithsonian. Lots of calligraphy and a few tiles. I really liked the way they used the blue to set off the gold leaf.
When the MTA announced its plans for building on the site they a said they would incorporate the tiles in the plans for their new building.
This started a tug of war between Albany, the state capitol, and the local group who curated and maintained the site.
Albany wanted the tiles sent north. They convinced the Tennessee-based Contemporary Ceramic Studios Association of America, the company which collects new pieces to display at the memorial from artists around the nation to send them to the capitol.
The local group removed the tiles and kept them safe during construction telling Albany ‘That’s kind of sweet, but thanks but no thanks,’
"Sterling Tiles" factory near Ferok, Calicut.
These tile factories were numerous and dotted the entire length and breadth of Kerala, but these days there are not too many of them alive and kicking. Even in this shot, I dont see the characteristic smoke that indicates "life".

I figure half the things like this that I see on the Interwebs are fake, but I saw this in real life, in a men's restroom at Disney's California Adventure theme park.
In case you do not know what's going on, you're supposed to find the misplaced tile. (For all I know there could be more than one. But there's definitely at least one.)
