What a wonderful birthday gift! Rachel sent me a fantastic package filled with all kinds of goodies and fun and mischief --- including herb seeds! These little thyme seedlings unfurled and poked through the soil in less than four days, and the basil's not far behind.

The goddamned busybody tore this and other plants out of a garden that didn’t belong to her. I save this one, but not some others she threw in the garbage. Damn the busybody, all busybodies, to the pit of Hell.

Thyme & Again

This is the 3rd year for this plant coming back.

Wildflower photos from a 4 mile hike in the Whiskey Dick Wildlife Area, Kittitas County, Washington. Late April and most of May is the best time to see countless numbers and species of wildflowers in this dry, arid shrub-steppe landscape. Each wildflower seem to have multiple names, and those names seem to change over time. Hopefully I have identified correctly, but let me know if you believe that I am incorrect. IMG_0292

I use this herb in so many dishes. It is one of my absolute favorites - so savory.

One of the thyme cuttings in a recycled Smart Water bottle sub-irrigated planter/propagator. Somehow putting out roots (two small white wisps at the bent corner) in midair.

These next couple were shots in the dark during a snow storm.

I poached the tuna steaks in chicken stock with the berries and thyme for about 10 minutes in the oven toaster.

Then I used the leftover herbed stock as the base for the gravy.

Side dishes: baked Japanese eggplant with garlic slices, cabbage, green beans and potatoes.
