This week we are going back fourteen years to 2009 and RV 479 on Eden Quay. The bus is dressed for route 15F. This route started running between the city centre and Kiltipper in 2001 (until 2003 the terminus was listed as Aylesbury and then Ellensborough). This was a peak-time only route that went via the Tallaght QBC and Rathmines, with one service in each direction a day. The route ceased to operate in December 2011 under Network Direct changes in the Rathmines area.

RV 479 was new to Dublin Bus in 1999. This Volvo Olympian was withdrawn in late-2011 and was sold on to another Irish operator. 27/10/2009

This week we are going back fifteen years to RV 597 on Suffolk Street with a service on route 145 to Heuston Station.

The first route 145 was a local route in Bray that ran between Palermo, Ballywaltrim and Kilmacanogue. This route started in 1995 and operated under the Localink brand using minibuses. In 2004 the route underwent a massive transformation when it was altered to run from Kilmacanogue to Mountjoy Square in the city centre. In 2010 the route was altered under Network Direct, when route 92 was merged into it, and the 145 moved it's city centre terminus to Heuston Station. In 2015 the route was cut back from Kilmacanogue to terminate at Ballywaltrim instead. The route last ran on the 25th January 2025. The following day the E-Spine changes under Bus Connects were implemented, and route 145 was partially replaced by routes E1 and 4.

RV 597 was new to Dublin Bus in 1999. It was withdrawn in September 2012, and was sold on to an operator in the United Kingdom.

Suffolk Street was a main artery for bus routes in the city centre for decades. However, buses were diverted away from it in January 2015 due to Luas Cross City works, and the street is effectively pedestrianised now.

USS Peleliu At Sea - Service members, their families and friends view an air-power display aboard USS Peleliu, May 9. During the last leg of the deployment, guests came aboard the ship to experience life on the Peleliu and to learn what their Marine or sailor has accomplished during the past seven months. The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is comprised of approximately 2,400 Marines and sailors and is deployed as part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group. Together, they provide a forward-deployed, flexible sea-based Marine Air Ground Task Force capable of conducting a wide variety of operations ranging from humanitarian aid to combat. Last one I swear :p so the bottom left picture is my throwback 2 years ago competing at the Junior Olympics/Nationals meet in the 100 and 200 meter hurdles. The top two pictures are 4x4 and 4x1 and the bottom right is when I went to state in the 4x1 with 2 seniors and a sophomore. I also run the 100m, 200m, if I have to... Hurdles. I do long jump and Javelin. This post was inspired by THE J0KER. So thank you! I have three more years in high school track and field and that means I'll always be busy ish In February to June. Anyways hope you'll enjoy! Oh and if anyone does track, comment below!

This week we are going back twenty-eight years to 1997 and to KC 25 parked on Burgh Quay dressed for route 5.

Route 5 started operating between the city centre and Mount Merrion (going via Ballsbridge) in 1952, extending to Kilmacud the following year. From 1973 to 1975 it terminated at Beaufield Park, behind Stillorgan Shopping Centre. This terminus was used by a number of routes over the decades. in 1975 route 5 was extended to Lakelands on Kilmacud Road Upper, and in 1987 it was extended to Sandyford Industrial Estate. The route ceased to operate in 2011 under Network Direct changes.

KC 25 was new to CIE in 1983. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in the late-1990s. The last GAC / Bombardier buses ran in the capital in 2000 (apart from a farewell run in 2001).

As time went on and DeGrazia’s success exploded, a demand for his art reached an all time high. In 1974 DeGrazia formed his artists guild. They would reproduce his original images to satisfy public demands, which included jewelry, figurines, candles, and many more items. Happy Throwback Thursday!

This week we are going back four years to 2020 and to the last leap day before this current one.

Dublin Bus SG 365 and SG 201 are seen in Beresford Place on routes 31 and 29A. CIE took over both routes from the GNRI in 1958, and both routes were replaced under Bus Connects in 2021. In their final forms, route 29A ran from the city centre to Baldoyle and route 31 ran from the city centre to Howth Summit. Under Bus Connects the 29A became route H1 and route 31 became route H3.

Both buses are Wright Gemini 3 on Volvo B5TL chassis. SG 201 was new to Dublin Bus in 2016, while SG 365 was new in 2017. Both buses are still in service with Dublin Bus, although SG 365 is now in TFI green/yellow livery.

DeGrazia shared dual passions for art and music. In 1945, DeGrazia completed his Master of Arts in Music at the University of Arizona. For his thesis, “Art and Its Relation to Music in Art Education”, he explored the connection between visuals and music. Visitors can hear DeGrazia’s music in the gallery’s gift shop. Happy Throwback Thursday!

A Manhattan-bound Q train arrives at Beverley Rd station, sporting the diamond Q bullet used during the Manhattan Bridge reconstruction, when the Q was the only train running on the Brighton Line. Since it was both a local and express service operating at the same times it fit the criteria for a diamond bullet to differentiate the two. This is the current criteria for a diamond bullet, which is why the <6> and <7> are currently in use, but not the <5>.

New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia dedicates the statue of Father Francis Duffy, the World War I chaplain of the New York Army National Guard's 1st Battalion 69th Infantry in Times Square on May 2, 1937. Duffy died on June 27, 1932 and his death was mourned city-wide. The area around his statue in Times Square is now known as Duffy Square (photo courtesy of the National Archives).

Throwback to me time in Kenya

Somewhere along I-74 either in Ohio or Indiana.

A short hop back nine years this week. In December 2007 Dublin Bus introduced into service the second batch of Enviro 500s. The first batch of twenty had been delivered in 2005 and went to Donnybrook. The second batch of fifty initially went to Phibsborough and appeared on a number of routes of that garage. These differed from the first batch by having a wider front door and LED destination displays. VT 25 is seen on Hawkins Street which was the then terminus for Blanchardstown routes. A few short years later it was transferred to Donnybrook as part of the VT 21-35 batch to supplement the other VTs on the 46A and 145. Dublin is one of the few cities in the world to operate the tri-axle Enviro 500s. 14/1/2007

This week we are going back thirty-four years to 1991 and to MB 11 on route 201 at The Square in Tallaght.

Tallaght gained three local routes in the late-1980s, numbered T01, T02 and T03. These routes served the various housing estates around Tallaght. and also started serving The Square shopping centre when it opened in 1990. Around that time the routes were also renumbered 201, 202 and 203. The 201 connected Killinarden and Kilnamanagh. In the 1990s it had a few changes, moving its western terminus to Jobstown, and its eastern terminus to Aylesbury and later to Kiltipper. In the early-2000s it started operating between Citywest and Bohernabreena, and this was its final form until the route was withdrawn around 2009.

MB 11 was one of fifteen MB Class minibuses delivered to Dublin Bus between 1987 and 1989. They were predominately used on the local routes around Tallaght and elsewhere in the city, under the Localink brand. All members of the class were withdrawn by 1994, with MB 8 passing to Bus Eireann.

Sporting a "chrome yellow" paint scheme, this Jayhawk attempts to replicate paint schemes worn by United States Coast Guard helicopters in the late '40s and early '50s.
