Sometimes a perfect memory can be ruined if put to words.

An NS SD60 meets the tail end of a piggyback train in Whiting, IN.

Here's a snap my dad took of me during our trip to Chicagoland. I want to say this was in '99 but I'm not sure. I was mad cause I wanted to turn around and watch the train, nowadays I'm glad I didn't :-)

It is a trip back to 2012 to see RV 604 in its final days with Dublin Bus. The bus had been delivered exactly 13 years previously in October 1999. It was withdrawn in November 2012, a month after this photograph was taken and a month before the final Olympian was withdrawn. The bus went on to have a second career in Scotland, and was observed in service around Perth (Scotland) in 2018.

The bus is seen here on route 150. The destination is displaying "Willington", although the more usual display was "Rossmore". The 150 commenced in 1994 under the City Imp brand and replaced route 50. City Imp saw mini-buses replacing more usual buses on routes, but operating to a higher frequency. Over time these routes became more popular and larger buses were placed on them until they all became part of the standard Dublin bus network with double-decker buses operating them.

Willington was the terminus of the 50 before the 150 came along and was extended to Rossmore. The current 150 terminus on Orwell Road in Rossmore is not far from Willington Roundabout.

Fleet Street was a city centre terminus for many different bus routes over the years. However, with the coming of the Luas Cross City around 2016, terminating buses had to be moved and only through routes stop here now to drop passengers off. The 150 terminus did not move too far, only going to Hawkins Street around the corner. 10/10/2012

This week we are going back to 1990. KD 365 is seen heading south on O'Connell Street with an 11B to Belfield. It is passing the now closed Clery's department store. The bus was originally meant to be the last one in the KD fleet, but after KD 111 was written off in an accident an extra bus was built which became KD 366. The bus is also in an all-over ad for Mars chocolate. 07/07/1990

This week we are going back nine years to 2014 and to DM 2 on Rosie Hackett Bridge. DM 2 was a Wrights demonstrator bus on a Volvo B5LH hybrid chassis. It entered service with Dublin Bus in July 2014 for initially a six month trial period. It was the second hybrid bus Dublin Bus had trialled, although WH 1 had arrived in 2008 and left in 2012. DM 2 lasted with Dublin Bus well into 2015, leaving in the second-quarter of 2015. It then went on to National Express West Midlands in the UK, arriving there around September 2015, but was returned to Volvo in November of that year. It was then sold on to Go-Ahead London and is still in service there today as WHV 111 - flic.kr/p/2pejr1S.

The bus is operating a service on route 151 to Foxborough. This route started in 2007, initially operating between Docklands Station and Grange Castle, although it was soon extended to Adamstown. In 2009 it moved its Docklands terminus to East Road, providing an interchange with route 53. Under Network Direct in 2010 the route was moved to terminate at Foxborough instead of Adamstown, and still does so today.

The bus is crossing Rosie Hackett Bridge which opened in May 2014.

Today I went to Chicago Outdoor Film Festival at Butler Field. Todays screening was of "Duck Soup". There was also the record attempt for "the most people wearing Groucho Marx glasses." The previous record was 4,077 people that wore the glasses all at the same time for a period of 10 mins. Chicago became the victor of the Guinness book record at 4,400. Sweet!?

Here is some information on Groucho Marx if you don't know who he is (courtesy of wikipedia):

Blast from the Past redone in living color with a bit of HDR treatment. Perhaps a bit overdone in this case, but I like the end result. Any resemblance to real life characters is purely coincidental.

We finally tried Mountain Dew Throwback too. I loved it but my wife seems to prefer the pancake syrup Dew.

Remember kids: corn belongs in your tamale and (per Bulldog, your adult beverage!), not your Pepsi can and/or gas tank!

After skipping a week due to holidays, we are back with a trip back in time to 2014. AV 110 is seen in Rathfarnham on route 17 from Rialto to Blackrock. This is a Donnybrook route but the bus is synonymous with Summerhill Garage. There it started off on the 33 before moving to the 20B in 2002. It then settled on that route before leaving the garage in 2013. It transferred to Donnybrook before being withdrawn in mid-2014. While at that garage it occasionally appeared on the 145 which went to Kilmacanogue in Wicklow, so the bus had a career that spanned the entire length of Dublin, from Balbriggan in the north to Wicklow in the south. 01/03/2014

Was war deine größte Modesünde? Das würden wir diese Woche nur allzu gerne sehen!

Early days, androgynous dressing

This was taken exactly one year ago today! March 27th, 2015.

Interestingly enough, I didn't dig this up because it's exactly one year old. I didn't know it was until I looked up the date to put here. I guess it's my way of apologizing, and letting someone know I care? Maybe? =P

This week we are going back fourteen years to 2009 and RV 479 on Eden Quay. The bus is dressed for route 15F. This route started running between the city centre and Kiltipper in 2001 (until 2003 the terminus was listed as Aylesbury and then Ellensborough). This was a peak-time only route that went via the Tallaght QBC and Rathmines, with one service in each direction a day. The route ceased to operate in December 2011 under Network Direct changes in the Rathmines area.

RV 479 was new to Dublin Bus in 1999. This Volvo Olympian was withdrawn in late-2011 and was sold on to another Irish operator. 27/10/2009

This week we are going back fifteen years to RV 597 on Suffolk Street with a service on route 145 to Heuston Station.

The first route 145 was a local route in Bray that ran between Palermo, Ballywaltrim and Kilmacanogue. This route started in 1995 and operated under the Localink brand using minibuses. In 2004 the route underwent a massive transformation when it was altered to run from Kilmacanogue to Mountjoy Square in the city centre. In 2010 the route was altered under Network Direct, when route 92 was merged into it, and the 145 moved it's city centre terminus to Heuston Station. In 2015 the route was cut back from Kilmacanogue to terminate at Ballywaltrim instead. The route last ran on the 25th January 2025. The following day the E-Spine changes under Bus Connects were implemented, and route 145 was partially replaced by routes E1 and 4.

RV 597 was new to Dublin Bus in 1999. It was withdrawn in September 2012, and was sold on to an operator in the United Kingdom.

Suffolk Street was a main artery for bus routes in the city centre for decades. However, buses were diverted away from it in January 2015 due to Luas Cross City works, and the street is effectively pedestrianised now.
