INS.43 Thrive on the slip at Lossie with a fresh coat of paint. The Jones of Buckie slip could take up to three boats for painting and general repairs at a time. Wooden boats were painted regularly to keep them in good condition.
My story was that I had a secret, a big, dark secret that I could tell no one.
Of course, I never really understood it until later in life (though even now it seems a mystery in many ways), but early on, I presumed at times I was gay even though it did not seem exactly right.
There were no other options in the world as I understood it.
Decades later I was relived to discover crossdressers and transgender people on the Internet. Bingo!
This was a long period in my life to avoid an honest discussion about sex and gender. I thought, no one must ever know - which is silly because truly few really cared.
Isn’t this disappointing…..like an anticlimax?
All the things we think about ourselves that are so terrible to other people, are really just a little bit more information about us.
We’d worry a lot less about what other people think of us if we realized how seldom they do.
The toll of keeping a secret so long is huge and generally not appreciated. Imagine constantly working to divert attention from important parts of yourself that you do not want exposed. Imagine how those close to you feel when your truth is finally revealed.
We can only go forward.
