We had a lovely swap in TorC. Vintage weird is the general theme that
everyone gets into. Wendy is sporting some authentic ridiculous threads.
The thread waisted Wasp is a solitary living wasp which has some macabre habits in the raising and feeding of its offspring. When the female is ready to lay her eggs she will capture and sting a caterpillar or spider. Her sting doesn’t kill her victim though it simply paralyses it. She then places the paralyzed spider or caterpillar into a hole in the ground and then lays one or more eggs on it and then fills in the hole. When her egg hatches the pupa then begins to feed on the paralyzed spider or caterpillar. The article I read also stated that in areas were Black Widow Spiders are native, that they are a favorite food to be stung and buried as baby food by this wasp. I photographed this one in July 2012 at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge at middle Island. Middle Island is in the Ohio River between the Ohio town of Newport and the West Virginia town of St. Marys

Wales has a much celebrated tradition of creating both utilitarian and decorative textiles of distinctive design. From power-loomed blankets to hand-stitched quilts, textiles are a key part of Welsh visual culture and history.
Whilst ‘A Darker Thread’ takes this heritage as its starting point, twelve contemporary artists, designers and makers have been invited to exhibit work which subverts these expectations.
Exhibitors have been selected for their challenging, confrontational or unpredictable approach to making thoroughly contemporary work which confidently cross boundaries of art, design and craft. A variety of making processes are exemplified, but all make use of thread in some form.
The curious, provocative, intense, fragile works explore broad-ranging themes of empowerment, loss, language, internal landscapes, memory and gender to name but a few. Some work might still feel comfortably familiar through its materiality or typically ‘Welsh’ colour palette of black, ecru and red; much hopefully, does not.

Experimenting with effects. A reel of thread in the centre of my glass table. The table is supported by a single silvery pole in the centre, which is reflecting the thread through the glass, & the pink is from the transparent pink chairs which also have silvery legs.
Some abstract light work, which looks like threads or wires. I'd rather think of them as wires, some intricate network of wires in a massive computer or something

Threads of Love: Baby Carriers from China’s Minority Nationalities, presents the rich folk art tradition of hand-embroidered baby carriers from the minority nationalities of southwestern China.
Over my spare time i would make these braceletes for sale. Not sure if i should start doing them again. Much work but the result totally pays off!

Pride Lights at Boston Center for the Arts, an annual tradition to honor the diverse history, culture and identities of the LGBTQIA community. Access to the BCA’s current exhibition Queer Threads, including Performing Threads, exhibition inspired Performance Art by the Boston LGBTQIA Artist Alliance in the Mills Gallery at 6:30pm, live entertainment on the Plaza beginning at 7:30pm and the Tree Lighting at Dusk.
