October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Dedicated to Cat who continually inspires me with her strength, her wisdom, her humor, and her love for her friends and family.
And to my mother who taught me that it's not what gets taken away from you that counts, it's what you do with what you have left.
I think it was last week that I saw this photo on eBay and I just HAD to have it because this is St Michaels during a brief period of disuse and, by the way, I didn't take this. Opened in 1864, this later formed part of, not just the CLC's main line to Manchester but also their North Liverpool Extension, running all the way initially to Aintree and, from 1884, to Southport. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Liverpool_Extension_Line
CLC stood for the Cheshire Lines Committee and was the second largest joint railway in Britain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheshire_Lines_Committee. Formed by the Great Northern Railway, Midland Railway and the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway (later to become the Great Central Railway), this was intended to break the near monopoly held by the London & North Western Railway.
The route was closed in stages from 1952 and, eight years later, the line between Aintree and Gateacre was closed to passengers. British Rail wanted to close the line but such a big fucking stink was created that it remained open until Saturday 15 April 1972 when the last train rumbled out of a disused Central Station.
However, the line didn't remain closed for long, being re-opened in 1978 as part of the Merseyrail network. I think it was around this time when the original plaform steps were replaced by a stepped ramp, although the awnings have long fucking gone.
The reason for the title of this photo is that, for a long time 'St Michael' was the brand used by Marks & Spencer, paying homage to Michael Marks, a Russian Jew who, together with a Tom Spencer, founded the company in 1884 and I think that's why Marksies funded the re-opening...because it made use of a brand they stupidly scrapped 21 years ago.

Leon Redbone- Think of me thinking of you
When all your joys, like broken toys, lie at your feet
You better not fool with a Bumblebee!—
Ef you don't think they can sting—you'll see!
They're lazy to look at, an' kind o' go
Buzzin' an' bummin' aroun' so slow,
An' ac' so slouchy an' all fagged out,
Danglin' their legs as they drone about
The hollyhawks 'at they can't climb in
'Ithout ist a-tumble-un out ag'in!
Wunst I watched one climb clean 'way
In a jimson-blossom, I did, one day,—
An' I ist grabbed it — an' nen let go—
An' "Ooh-ooh! Honey! I told ye so!"
Says The Raggedy Man; an' he ist run
An' pullt out the stinger, an' don't laugh none,
An' says: "They has be'n folks, I guess,
'At thought I wuz predjudust, more er less,—
Yit I still muntain 'at a Bumblebee
Wears out his welcome too quick fer me!"

So this was supposed to be my rubbing my chin in a thoughtful pose look - didn't quite work out - lol!
I wish there were 60 hours in a day! I just can't seem to fit it all in! I also I seem to spend my life shifting dusty boxes from one room to another at the moment with all the renovations going on! lol
Even my kitchen that you see above is still a work in progress - the masking tape around the hob is there to protect the metal while we treat the oak worksurfaces with some special oil. I think we are nearly there as the finish is almost mirror like - only 5 coats so far!!!
Anyway it will all be worth it in the end :)
Hope you have all had a lovely weekend.
HSS :)
My latest iteration and the one I like the best so far. Its a combination of a few different techniques with a few additional masks and layers thrown in. I actually used almost a double Luminance layer on this, one of just Ha and one with Ha+OIII then blended them for a master Luminance. Then used most of the color technique as two tries ago but with an additional layer of the last (yellow) process to get a little more of the 3D look on some of the nebula.
I think I can up the dynamic contrast a bit more in areas, but I think I am on the right track

Now I've seen loads of other gig photographers do this, they SLOWLY go on a slow rampage on festival photos. I will most likely do that the next few days but for now I was thinking what I'd have up for my 365, it's quite a hard one to pick I must say but I decided to use this one, mainly because the heart on her cheek was so vibrant and it made me feel like the world is an innocent place (despite how my mind thinks)
Anyway, I saw this couple and found them adorably cute so I took a photo of them (you should totally see the next part of this photo, it's lulz). I dont think it'd be a good idea to summarise the whole festival with a photo of a band because obviously there were more than one band headlining and whatnot, so I thought I'd put the focus on the crowd. It was ace shooting the crowd, I'm always paranoid they don't want photos taken, mainly because all my friends avoid my camera like the plague despite them asking for the said photo after they've seen what it looks like (and wanting it for their facebook profile photo of all things). So yeah, i took a plunge and went all out ninja'ing shots of the crowd, sometimes they knew I was doing it and were happy to pose, sometimes they had no idea (you get a more natural pose).
I miss outdoor shots, they're so fun and you can use crazy settings to shoot compared to the bog standard iso3200 shows I goto.
Uhm yeah, field day was pretty amazing, it was my first festival to cover and I had mucho fun :) the beginning was a bit annoying since we had to travel in and out to get a photo pass which felt like a game of human pinball at one point where we constantly had to annoy security guards in letting us find where the photo passes were. In the end we found it and discovered that they didn't have enough passes so they just gave us artist passes for the day, this pretty much meant access all areas since we weren't really restricted in where we stood and whatnot, it was pretty ace, at some shows they didn't even care if you sat at the front the entire show (which i did to relax my poor feet). The hospitality area was a bit poop and boring (filled with people who stayed there the entire day because they were too important to actually watch the gig).
The toilets at the VIP area were amazing and the food was pretty good (note i did go to this organic burger tent that made pretty tasty burgers) still doesn't quite beat that time they had a NANDO's in a festival (V)
Anyway, that's enough description text for now, i prefer to write more stories elsewhere...
If you think the massive eruption of Mt. St. Helens 37 years ago was impressive, you're right. But if you'd been on the south side of the mountain some 2,500 years ago, this scene would have scared the daylights out of you.
A huge lava flow came down the flanks of the volcano and into the Muddy River Valley. There, it just about filled the deep valley the river had cut through an earlier lava flow.
In the intervening 2,500 years, the river eroded away much of the recent flow, creating a new valley with a dramatic, 200-foot waterfall.
Sources say the river valley was hidden from view by the dense forest that grew over and around it. The valley was choked by mud and other debris that had come down the river, hiding the falls from view.
That all changed on May 18, 1980, when the north side of Mt. St. Helens was destroyed by a volcanic eruption triggered by an earthquake.
A wall of mud, rocks, trees and volcanic ash came roaring down the south side of the mountain and right down the Muddy River Valley.
In the process, the mud flow, called a lahar, scoured out the Muddy River Valley, exposing the ancient waterfall and the eroded basalt lava from the eruption 2,500 years ago.
Today, it's a great place to go on a day trip from Portland, which is what my geology class did yesterday.
I think my favorite part of abandonment is opening doors. Each doorway is, like, the mystery within the mystery. I have passed this door about 20 times and first opened it tonight.
Do you think that this is funny?
A government jobs agency refused to advertise jobs with "Ann Summers" on the grounds that it would cause offense to do so.
"Ann Summers" opposed the refusal in court and the judge ruled that jobs in the "sex industry," including not only Ann Summers shops, but lap dancing clubs and escorts (sometimes called prostitutes, or in parts of America whores) were also legal jobs that must be advertised.
Under "Welfare to Work" legislation introduced today young women (especially young mothers) can be refused State Benefit if they refuse to take any legal work that is offered to them.
I'll ask the question again.
Do you think that this is funny?
Don't look now, but I think spring is on the way. The gardens are full of Daffodils, and other flowers are starting to wake up, too.
Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear? My purpose in this world is knowledge, and the dissemination of it.
And it is I who is to restore the fruits of my labor to the entire world.
Fear... It is something vital to us puny creatures. The instant man stop fearing is the instant the species reaches a dead end, only to sink to pitable lows, only to sit and wait apathetically for extinction.
Humans who lose the ability to think become creatures whose existence has no value. Wake Up! Don't be afraid of knowledge!
Think, you humans who are split into two worlds, unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, you must Think!
oh, i couldn't resist taking this pic -- they were out there building something on their sim. This is the CSR prize and i think that hat from BP (from last winter) is gonna get some use... :D
The original - rather lackluster and anemic, tho the composition is ok. It does feature my carved olivewood vase, a gift from a friend in Israel.
I think Martha Stewart would be proud! I repurposed an old collector's case (or at least that what I think it is) as a storage "shed" for my trims and thread.
I think this is outside Newcastle Central Station, it came as 1969 but looks more like 1959 to me.
In view is Northern DCN 832 (or 1532) which was a Guy Aran LUF with Picktree (new one on me) C35F bodywork dating from May 1954.
Love the rail ticket prices with Middlesbrough at 37.5p return being the most expensive, pity we can't see the Rail and Steamer prices!

Ran across this on 6th Avenue. Think a school group made this display by spelling out Think with recyclables. I think.
I’ll be off for a few weeks for vacation. Gonna miss you guys all!!
My warm “Saluto” especially to Steph, Postsumptio and Suzan.
Have a happy summer!!
I think I made an error here and made a note about constant rotation when it should have been pulsed rotation. Oh well! I honestly felt that using a 1+63 dilution would help this film, but I think that it needs to use a stronger dilution of Ilfotec HC and go with a longer development time. However, I still feel this is not a good combo, the contrast is too high, and the grain is more mushy and not at all pleasing.
The full review drops in February 2023!
