Taking a BIG Leap of Faith!
Moving from the boot heel of Italy to moving to North Texas was a BIG move!
How BIG you ask?
When you are an eight year old girl, that has lived in Italy your whole life and gone to school since you were three years old, had the same circle of friends, gone to the beach with family & friends every Summer, attended family get togethers with your Daddy's family as far back as you can remember, eaten Italian food and practiced Italian customs Because YOU ARE ITALIAN... and, THEN, last Winter, your Dad comes home and says, "Do you want to go live in America? Christmas with American cousins at Gram & Poppy's will be a FIRST! Never seen a real American Santa, just pictures!!!
Your Dad is transferred to America first, and has been AWAY more than at home.
There is a lot of waiting because it is JUST Mom. Mom said she might as well be a single parent.
Life here LOOKS different. Houses are different, food is different and the clothes & shoes that kids wear are different. Now, YOU are THAT "New Girl" and the girl that has not played American sports or even heard of Cheerleading!
(And what's with ZOMBIES???)
Teachers are still Teachers, but spelling words are different, as is the language you speak when you are out and about. Grammar is awkward, reading is kinda difficult but Science and PE and Music and Art are fun! Eating breakfast as well as lunch with your class is fun! (What happened to pasta & bread at home for lunch?) No Saturday school here, Whoopee!!!
Mom made time for Scout meetings! Friends that go to scouts, are crafty & fun!
You are happy to find that Americans swim too, but in pools. Does every house in the U.S. have a pool? (That's where the town's water went! Who would have thought there was water rationing?) As in Italy, the U.S. has swim clubs! That's ONE thing that is the same :)
It's nice to find that other Military kids have come from other far away places and you find that they had to wait months for their toys and furniture to come across on a ship, too!
Some kids are just like our family, and hardly ever get to see their Daddy either.
You took a BIG LEAP moving from Italy to America!
And after the first quarter of school, you realize that you DID it!
Your family found a new home and you speak English now every day at school and go to a new 3rd grade class and you DID make NEW friends! It is just like Mom said it would be!
YOU took a BIG Leap of Faith, Girl!
And YOU did it!
YOU did it!
Yea!
Whew!!!
A BIG shout- out to our G.daughter and her siblings!
Gram & Poppy are proud of you and love you all!

Playing in the woods near a creek was ANOTHER First! And it was so much fun!

Had to take this picture because Rookie licks Ace's face and then it looks like he has an evil moustache.
I think that photography can tell many things about a person. A photo, sometimes, catches more than a mind, it perceives what the eyes can't see.
Then I've put my face in front of a lens, and I've tried to denude myself of any smile or any emotion that might have looked untrue; I've showed myself for who I really am... and the photography has done it. It has catched all my fears, all my convictions and all my ambitions... it has understood me, and it has accepted me.
Would you be able to do the same? Accepting someone for what it is?
... we took Minnie with us today. But, the weather just sucked...rain on top of rain!
We're all bummed. A deep, thoughtful girl, she has the sweetest face, I love

I think the kitchen is the most fun part of projects such as this - they contain lots of stuff!
As I stated before, the kitchen in houses such as this was usually semi-subterranean, which is why there are no windows. The ceiling would usually be vaulted (arched) to help it support the weight of the house above. That doesn't work in a dolls house, so I have arched the doorways and recesses to give the impression of vaulting.
Down here of course, the ceilings are lower and the fancy light-shades, wall-paper and cornices have all gone. Everything is strictly functional.
DSCN2583, Image # I think. I lost it in the process of trying to fix this picture up. I am lost tonight, I guess. I wanted to crop it a tiny bit, which I did. I wanted to add a note on left side, that it is a Lightling that resembles a vertical Tuxedo Cat with a red backpack, On the lower right is a Lightling of only Santa Claus face, red & white Santa hat and big white beard, His right hand is in motion a bit with a red mitten on. His left hand doesn't show in this image, nor does his body.
I wanted to remove at least two tiny blemishes, maybe more, and could not figure out how to work my newest program.
I have some new programs and controls and I don't really know how to run/work them. I spent over an hour and 15 minutes on this, and almost gave up completely. I'm thinking perhaps I should have. Arrgh! Delina

Look and think before opening the shutter. The heart and mind are the true lens of the camera.
~ Yousuf Karsh
I've found shooting with film to be a very different experience than using a digital camera. While using my digital I usually like to work a subject from various distances and angles, shooting from all different perspectives to decide later which I prefer. Pressing the shutter on my Retina Reflex is an event. Each frame has value, or at least cost, and comes along with a build up of anticipation that lasts much longer than the split second it takes for a digital to spit out an image preview. In fact, I'm finding that a roll of film lasts me longer than I would like before I'm able to find enough quality subjects to fill it.
This image is from a test shoot with my donor camera. You can see the two missing leatherette pieces which cover the screws securing the front assembly.
Please take a look in Lightroom =)
You can see the reconstruction of this camera, along with some photos taken with it over the period of 53 years HERE
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month I decided to make Think Pink Cupcakes.
I found the recipe in 500 Cupcakes and while I didn't fall in love with the taste they are pretty decent.
Look for the recipe featured on blog in the next couple of days!
