A Guard is supposed to protect and that's why thimbles were designed to guard the finger tips against thousands of tiny needle and pin pricks, whilst sewing.

While snorkeling I noticed these little brown jellyfish bumping around at the surface. They are rightly called, the Sea Thimble (Linuche unguiculata) and they were being gobbled up by green sea turtles nearby.
Their larvae are responsible for sea lice bites.

Hinda Kremer Nathan, October 21, 1919 to October 3, 2010
Our friend, Hinda, the quilter, passed away October 3, 2010. She would have been 91 on October 21. She had moved from The Regency to a board and care, and when her daughter was emptying her apartment she gave, at Hinda's request, one of Hinda's thimbles to each of the three of us who were her Scrabble partners. She was a dear woman, a strong spirit, and we all still miss her very much three years later.

I glue baste the paper to my fabric with a regular old glue stick, then trim a generous 1/4+ around the paper. Baste along side the flat angles like you would a hexie.Then when you get to the curve, do a back stitch then weave the needle ( running stitch) alongside the top of the curve. When you get to the other side, pull the thread to gather the fabric. I press and guide it along the paper to get a nice crisp edge. Backstitch again and finish basting the straight angle. If you iron these before you sew them together, it helps them lay flat with no fuss. 16 thimbles per dresden. I got the papers here, these come together so quickly that you might as well get get 'em in bulk ;)

The Thimble Inn is an historic thatched pub situated in the heart of the Piddle Valley, just Four miles from the centre of Dorchester, Dorset.
....In the same way that you can never be too rich or too thin! I am neither of the latter, but I have enough thimbles to last several lifetimes.
The inscription on the larger thimble has the name of an ancestor with "A happy 1899". The smaller thimble is tiny, but in the same design - perhaps made for a child.
