Deze houten vingerhoed vond ik in de vingerhoedcollectie van mijn moeder. Vandaag hebben we familiedag rond haar verjaardag en haar sterfdag nu twee jaar geleden. Warme herinneringen aan haar maken ons blij.
This wooden thimble I found in the collection of my mother’s. Today we have family day around her birthday and her death anniversary two years ago. Warm memories makes us smile.
Thanks for taking time to fave, comment and look at my work. I really appreciate.
Thimbles in the Victorian era were much more commonly made of silver, so this gilt one is unusual. It has a monogram on the other side with the initials MW and a little star on the top. The glass button is incredibly tiny and from the same era. We're still getting plenty of rain here, with a little sun in-between, but at least there are Spring-like colours in this image. :)

I have had some licensing requests for a Connecticut tourism campaign so I have made it a goal to shoot more locally in the next few months. Here is one of them. The conditions were just right for a beautiful serene sunset at the Thimble islands docks. Met a friendly guy with a boat who offered to take me to some of the islands for a different perspective, but for now I think I am going to stick with shots from here.

There are many interesting pieces of art sitting in front of office buildings and on street corners as you walk around the streets of Toronto.
I remember when my mother used this thimble. I refound it at the bottom of a box after she died. And I have brought it with me since. She used to sew all my clothes when I was a child.

Thimbleberry fruits are larger, flatter, and softer than raspberries, and have many small seeds. Because the fruit is so soft, it does not pack or ship well, so thimbleberries are rarely cultivated commercially.
However, wild thimbleberries can be made into a jam which is sold as a local delicacy in some parts of their range, notably in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan. Thimbleberry jam is made by combining equal volumes of berries and sugar and boiling the mixture for two minutes before packing it into jars.
We bought several jars that had just been freshly made too to bring home.

... and another little 4 letter word.
Yesterday my word was Stem, so my word today (by my rules) had to have a S T E or M. I had a few choices, but settled on reel as I have many boxes of cotton reels. After a bit of rummaging, I found this old reel and the thread is much finer than modern day cotton.
This is a miniature thimble. I have it balling on a thimble that I use.
I purchased ages ago if I remember at a boot fair. Loved it because it was so tiny and I was collecting thimbles at the time :-).

Experiments in mark making.
I recently found my old steel thimble and wondered if I could draw with it. I put it on my index finger and added drops of ink onto the front surface and edge using a small plastic squeeze bottle. I also dipped it in water to make some grays. I like all the happy accidents. It made some surprisingly thin marks. Another tool to add to my collection. It’s different from using a pen, stick, or brush. It is very direct because you are drawing with your finger. Makes me want to try inventing a finger mounted brush or pen.
