“Go on,” he said.
“About vampires.” I realized I was whispering. I couldn’t look at his face now. But I saw his knuckles tighten convulsively on the wheel.

He was suddenly resigned. “What are you curious about?”
“How old are you?”
“Seventeen,” he answered promptly.
“And how long have you been seventeen?”
His lips twitched as he stared at the road. “A while,” he admitted at last.
“Okay.” I smiled, pleased that he was still being honest with me.

“You haven’t asked me the most important question yet.” His voice was hard now, and when he looked at me again his eyes were cold.
I blinked, still dazed. “Which one is that?”
“You aren’t concerned about my diet?” he asked sarcastically.
“Oh,” I murmured, “that.”
“Yes, that.” His voice was bleak. “Don’t you want to know if I drink blood?”
I flinched. “Well, Jacob said something about that.”
“What did Jacob say?” he asked flatly.
“He said you didn’t . . . hunt people. He said your family wasn’t supposed to be dangerous because you only hunted animals.”
“He said we weren’t dangerous?” His voice was deeply skeptical.
“Not exactly. He said you weren’t supposed to be dangerous.

The Golden Ratio informs a lot of my art and photographic composition. The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo! Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.
The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio.

I've seen a few images produced using this kind of ride/theme, so I wanted to produce my own slightly chaotic take on it. I think the result all subconsciously stems from the fact that I actually hate rides like this; which was reasonably well mannered for much of the time, but then would went entirely berserk for about 20 seconds at the end! I felt slightly nauseous just watching it for a few minutes! : 7

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
Cognitive theory (psychology) is the study of how the brain processes data in the formation of beliefs and opinions and hence behavior based on those beliefs and opinions. Examples are such things as voting, financial decisions and social beliefs. Cognitive theory explains how we come to have our opinions and beliefs and why they differ among individuals. “Do not drink the Kool-Aid” , i.e., doing your own research and generally being a bit skeptical of conventional wisdom is the greatest way to combat its influence. The broken windows theory is a criminological theory of the norm-setting and signaling effect of urban disorder and vandalism on additional crime and anti-social behavior. The theory states that maintaining and monitoring urban environments to prevent small crimes such as vandalism, public drinking, and toll-jumping helps to create an atmosphere of order and lawfulness, thereby preventing more serious crimes from happening. Never have I wondered more about this theory, than in Porto.
I adore the city, clearly.
But I worry about all the broken windows. Does the theory hold in Porto, I wonder? So many of the buildings are in a state of neglect. Sure, buildings can be dirty, but can’t they fix up all the broken panes?
One of my favourite things to do when travelling, as you might have guessed from other photo descriptions, is to consider what life was like in the past. Who built these buildings? What were they for, what were the names of the first people through the doors, did they ever hang out the windows, did they ever sit and stare out a window and ponder life? What joyful occasions have taken place within these walls, what sad moments have occurred?
It would be lovely to have seen Porto in its heyday. And failing that, it would be lovely to see a bit more money spent on keeping these buildings up. Both, yes, to attend to the broken windows theory, but also because these buildings are just stunning - imagine how it would feel to see them restored!
