Vivid Light transforms Sydney into a wonderland of 'light art' sculptures, innovative installations and grand-scale projections for all to enjoy.
May 23 - 9 June 2014
Imagine a giant canvas where you can paint and splash light collaboratively. Giant concentric circles invite you to leap onto them. When you do, you enter a world where play and movement create swirling effects of light and colour. Welcome to The Pool.
More than 100 interactive circular platforms sit side by side. Each pad is independent and simultaneously interacts with and ‘listens’ to its environment, adjusting its output according to your movements. It senses where you place your feet, how heavily you land, and how quickly you leap and bound.
Together with all your ‘pool playmates’, you can instruct your pads to create complex, and delightfully unpredictable patterns of colour.

a dull murky morning but worth going down to Snettisham for the Wading birds as they fly to roost when the high tide comes in on the Wash estuary. This video is the first batch to come in to the pools, another lot came shortly after. Good numbers here already with more to come next month when we hope the sun shines on them

Common Crossbill is a common bird of the pine woods of Northumberland but a bird that we rarely see well. However, in hot weather, they need to drink and there is a different availability of water in the sun-parched mountains of Catalunya compared to Keilder.
The Photo Logistics hide over a drinking pool in the mountains north of Solsona proved a fantastic spot to get close to the species. Several flocks made recurrent visits to thepool allowing ample opportunity for every sort of photo.

“The Pool” as it was known from when it was built in 1937 is a lido on the beach at Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, UK. When it was built, the swimming pool at 950 square metres and the diving board at 10metres were respectively the largest and highest in Europe. Through the 1950s-1960s international swimming events were held here. In the early 1980s the pool was redeveloped which included reducing the size of the pool and demolishing the diving board, in 1983 the pool reopened with a new name 'Tropicana'. Following a period of decline the Tropicana closed its doors in 2000, since then the local council have been seeking redevelopment of the site but all potential developers have pulled out for reasons related either to planning disputes (with the council) or economic problems.
At the present time (mid-November 2012) North Somerset Council have stated their intention to demolish the Tropicana site and return the area to being part of the beach. A local company 'The Trop (WsM) Ltd' has been formed to fight demolition and submit redevelopment proposals. The more I try and read up on what is happening at the moment the more confused I get.

This is a larger version of the same image that I uploaded a few months ago. I'm really impressed by the image quality you can get out that little Fuji rangefinder camera.
Here is some technical data:
Camera: Fuji GW690III
Lens: Fujinon 90mm f/3.5 at f/5.6 for '250
Film: Kodak E100G; E-6 processing by Photo Studio 13
Scanner: ICG 370HS
downsized to res 133 (pixels per mm) and saved as jpeg quality 11 to fit into the 50 MB flickr file size limitation
at the finish for the summer championships- he did great, but didn't place in the top 8 (10th) this was his younger year in his division, so watch out next year!

The Pool is an group of giant, concentric circles created from interactive circular pads. By entering The Pool, visitors enter a world where play and collaborative movement create swirling effects of light and color. Imagine a giant canvas where you can paint and splash light collaboratively. This installation is best enjoyed and is most beautiful when a group of people play with the different pads together.

"It’s our 40th birthday and to celebrate, we have a gift for you, our audiences. Brightening up those dark autumnal evenings, The Pool will take up residence for two weeks outside Warwick Arts Centre. Created by US-based artist Jen Lewin, The Pool has had audiences around the world painting and splashing light in unison.
Formed from interactive circular pads, The Pool is an environment of giant, concentric circles. Step into a playful world where you, along with friends, family and strangers collaborate to generate mesmerising patterns of shifting and fading colours.
A giant game that will have you running, jumping, adding, bouncing, and mixing light together. Bring family and friends and join us for a pool party."
Well we enjoyed it - but we only have it until the 2nd December so we'd better keep bouncing on it whilst we can!
Taken at 'The Pool' in Melbourne, South Derbyshire in not very good light, but wanted to see what had arrived since our last visit a couple of weeks ago.
We were expecting to see Goosander, which we did, but not in the numbers we expected.
